You should consider adding lots of plants to the entrance dirt slopes. Some with large root systems. This is what keeps slopes from just sliding away on roadsides and mountains

Oh my goodness! I can't imagine how much work the rains added to your list of things to do! I was annoyed my entrance portal got about 6 inches of water, now I realize how lucky I am! I still have the well pump here for you to use, it pushes 67 GPM with 400 foot lift if you want to come by and get it... Just needs 240v if your generator can do that.
@ThompsonAtomicRanch3 жыл бұрын
Haha, we wish ours was only 6 inches of water :P These little pumps are actually doing pretty good for us and we wont feel bad if they get ruined from mud/muck since we can just return then with the extra warranty we got with them. We're gonna have a family get together out there in November if youd like to come. Let me know! :)

Probably too late ..but a used water well pump is designed to push water up hundreds of feet. Perhaps having one of those handy may help. You have a lot of pressure washing ahead and one of those in the sump would move the water quickly.

@GTsTitanRanch3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the shoutout guys. I wish it were under better circumstances. Why don’t you respond to my text messages?? 😊 One thing about the head height of a pump. That rated number is above the height of the water, not the pump. So if you have the pump in 10 feet of water those 10 feet don’t count in the calculations. So what you’ll see is the GPM fall down as the depth of the water lowers. And since L3 is about 16 feet below the short cableway you’ll need to have your pump relay system somewhere close to L2 height. I’m glad you won’t need those pumps again. I have a boneyard of cheap pumps. They just don’t last with dirty water in my experience.
@GrandsonofKong3 жыл бұрын
Yikes! Have you thought about a deep catchment basin(concrete lined) and grate in front of the entrance with a sump pump at the bottom? May not work for those 100 years storms but in most cases keep water out from inside.

I realize it was a hot Summer day out in the desert, but unless you're absolutely certain that the soil wasn't contaminated by toxic materials like TCEs, diesel fuel from washing vehicles, etc. during the site's operational days, it wouldn't be safe to go swimming in the lake, especially if any water is ingested or comes into contact with eyes, etc. Also, I worry you could get in-trouble with federal & state environmental protection agencies for pumping out what could have been contaminated liquid (rain water + greases, PCBs + ??) from the LCC to the outside land.
@tl10243 жыл бұрын
What they failed to mention is that every site had a nearby pond to hold water to do all that massive concrete job back then. So there is a place to put water. (At least for the desert sites). Concrete requires some water. That's a horrible mess they're in, but some details were left out. Maybe I'm wrong, so show me wrong. If you look at the desert sites, theres always a pond thing nearby, where yould be able to put water into. Just like they took water out from to do this concrete work from originally.

i suppose you could have had the only indoor swimming pool, inside a silo, or offered the corridors to the navy for submarine escape exercises i like the mote idea, perhaps over time since the silo is now kind of ground level (slightly below) what about adding a small mote below the entry level with a bridge, but i guess will depend on future rain fall and what's held in the water table - the only answer sadly is to have increased drainage, major engineering, but how deep and where to, whatever you do will need a much deeper run off - open a new outdoor swimming area for the locals h&s?
@garyjones25823 жыл бұрын
If u closed both of those blast doors, would that help keep the water 💧 out? How long do you think it will take u to complete your project? It will be nice to see what your place will look like when completed...
@ThompsonAtomicRanch3 жыл бұрын
Now that the rain is pretty much gone until next summer, we have time to muck out the LCC. We are thinking by December, we'll be back to where we were when it was nice and clean in there, plus, we'll be able to pressure wash the three levels. Overall, we wish we had done a better job of sealing it up so this wouldnt have happened but it just helped us to understand that our water catchment areas outside needed to be much more significant than they were. Some people think we're absolutely nuts/crazy but hey, we learn from our mistakes and keep on going right?! Thanks for watching :)
@robertbriggs56053 жыл бұрын
Sorry to see that you got flooded out. Can you weld some handles to the door locking pins and operate the door locks manually? At least to the 3 level lcc? That would hopefully keep the water and mud out of that area and as you move further from the LCC into the hub and clean out the access portal area, lock those doors? Haven’t really gotten a good look at the locks to see if this is a possibility

@ThompsonAtomicRanch2 жыл бұрын
All former military sites are actually inspected by the Corps of Engineers to ensure no hazards are being passed to the public. The Titan II sites in Arizona have all passed the EPA standards and have a green light in the FUDS report. From what I understand the inspections were very thorough. Our site deed has no restrictions on digging or accessing the LCC or silo :)
@Kaus52212 жыл бұрын
@@ThompsonAtomicRanch I hear you I just know the EPA clears the sight as long as the containments can't spread. So they put 2ft of dirt over the surrounding soil and call it good. The EPA might not care since the contact excludes the government from any damages. I would feel better getting a soil sample knowing I'm not going to turn into a cronenberg. There is a new sight in Kansas up for sale that looks pretty rough. What are some of the risks to keep in mind when buying one of these sights
