These videos show why no matter how good of a driver you are, there is always the possibility of someone else’s lack of awareness or skill could cause you to have an accident. he's using engine braking in addition to braking with the brakes, the lower the rpm the less the engine will slow the car down.. if you look at the speedometer you can see he downshifts at really close to the max rpm of each gear for maximum braking.
