I have to admit this, I wasn't a believer in De Decker. For a long whule I saw him as "He'll be just a 2nd round exit type of player" or "He's cut out to be a champ." I've never been this happy to be proven wrong, 'cause I have no idea where he got this form from. Well done to the lad, he's made his country, his family, and many dart fans proud! What a game.

That was brilliant.. best darts final I've seen in ages.. the respect from both players to each other was very heartwarming. I have to say something...I am a football fan, and I've been to many games and the atmosphere is electric at times, but I have also been to a few darts tournaments.. there is no comparison, the darts fans would put the football fans to shame.

The best ambassador for darts the game has ever seen ; competitive , brilliant and the most magnanimous in defeat I've ever seen from a world champion and world number 1 , take a bow Luke Humphries. Big congrats to MDD too , to win that title from nowhere was a huge achievement As a sidenote , I felt Luke would lose when I saw that big sigh of relief at the end of set 8 ; he needed to stay focussed on the job but appeared to think the job was done.

@@MartynMcfly100 OK so here's a good example of what a regular sour puss your hero is behind closed doors. Today's Players Championship 28 (16 Oct 24), got his bottom spanked by Jose de Souza. Cool Hand gave the briefest of handshakes (briefer than Call Rydz I believe), no warm trademark kiss and cuddle, and was out of there quicker than a rabbit down a hole. Like I say, he does this a LOT in these events without the crowd. I rest my case. You just have to go back and watch them all for your proof.

Luke couldn't miss in his semi, but in the final for a long stretch couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Managed to turn it around to make it a contest again, but the better man won in the end. Always nice to see an underdog do well. Luke as usual gracious in defeat.

What a final! Absolutely delighted for Mike! What a story! His dart at tops to take set 9 was an absolute champion’s dart. It was gonna be super tough to hit it in the first place, but under that kind of pressure? Unreal. Certainly the most improved player in 2024. Luke tried to fight back as best as he could but it wasn’t enough. There was a period where he was missing a lot of doubles to finish and that cost him in the end. Gracious as ever in defeat though. He’ll be back fighting in the next one. What a tournament it’s been. That’s why we love the darts.

Really pleased for Mike and well deserved - I was roaring him on and I was astonished at him keeping his composure which always must be questioned when a player has never been in a major final - he's come from nowhere and is now in the big league - all credit to the lad. And I must add...what a decent guy Luke is - there's not many players that would've genuinely congratulated their opponent as he did when that crucial dart went in for Mike in set 5, giving him a 4-1 lead. I've said many times that these Luke 'haters' do not even like darts - fcukin' idiots!¬ He's a credit to the sport and the younger brigade could learn a lot from watching how he always conducts as a proper sportsman. Obviously his own disappointment aside...he looked genuine pleased for Mike.
