It was just too long to wait til wrap up to show off some of these incredible and rare finds! Idalia brought us a mix of treasures and damage, and we saw lots of these shells found in Parts 1 and 2 so far...
So we'll take a quick interlude, and show off not only some of the EPIC finds, but go over 5 different cleaning methods that you can use on your own beach goodies!
1: Peroxide
2: Let the Ants Do it
3: Bleach
4: Using Tools
5. Acid Washing
now, i have been a Muriatic Acid gal for a long time, but ... this Acid Magic stuff is pretty great to work with! It's a little bit more money but the results are amazing and the solution even diluted does a great job for getting loads of shells cleaned in short order. Unlike my muriatic acid, this stuff didn't get all gross and dirty even after a big batch of shells. I was able to put a lid on the container of my solution and use it again the next day too!
AAANNNDDD! A special surprise - you can VOTE for what video we see next in the series!!!
Do you want to see another epic haul and live critters from the Blue Moon Reschedule at Pass-a-Grille?
Or - would you rather visit a NEW beach not seen before that had surprise shells and ALBINOS?
Head over to the poll on the community page and vote today!
You can also join Michelle tonight at 10pm EST for the LIVE PREMIER of this video, where you can ask question about cleaning methods, locations, shell finds, and decide where you want to see the next shelling video from!

thank you! i am glad you enjoyed! it was actually really fun to make this video, seeing all the improvement in the shells is so cool! there was a few first time shells for me, too - like those fragile mactras, hinged egg cockles, and the moon snail operculum :) storms aren't fun to deal with, but getting a good haul makes up for the stress!

So many shells!!! You hit the jackpot! I clear coat my Keiner’s whelks that I get on the east coast and they look great. I also sprayed my calico clams and they look so exquisite!! Thanks for the cleaning tips!

.....and it's only HALF the jack pot lol....lots more to come! I used to spray my shells but at this point i have way too many - and spraying them made them stick together in their storage containers lol! so now they go naked til they are made into something then they get a lil something after assembly :)

Great tips on cleaning the shells and using the acid. I don’t know why, but it didn’t occur to me to use plastic utensils and that was a great tip.

thank you! i learned about metal and acid a while back trying to use a metal strainer and tongs to do this . That turned into a giant MESS oh my... ate right through stuff and discolored the acid like crazy! you can get cheap plastic utensils at the dollar stores too :) that's where mine came from, no sense in wrecking my good kitchen stuff! 🤣

I’ve never been to sunset beach. Is there a certain area of the beach that’s great for shelling?

we were down at the end of the point near Mansion by the Sea in the TERN parking lot when we went before the storm, and in handicap accessible parking in from of the bathroom right after the storm. however: shortly after Idalia they closed that parking lot and some others all the way up to Caddy's because the sand dune was IN the parking lots - and they figured it would take about a month to clean it up and restore the dune. From CADDY's down there was not access to the beach and little to no parking there immediately following. I have to get back up that way and see how the renourishment is going actually But there are shells from Caddy's down from what I have seen up there before... matter of fact on the news when they interviewed Caddys staff after the storm during cleaniup, the beach behind them was CARPETED with shells
