I feel like Maru should have tech switched at some point into High Templar and Archons since he had so much gas. I love the attempt he did though.

Thinking about it more, High Templars would be great against Hydras, Archons not so much, but it would be a good way to attack multiple bases since the carriers are so slow.

Maybe without a ground army to screen, he thought HT would get picked off too easily. I dunno if storm would do significant FF to the interceptors either, you dont see it much. Though in the heat of it, I think he just hoped that if he pushed a little harder, he can break the zergs back. Setting aside a few minutes and all that money to tech to HT would slow his momentum.

Exactly what I thought. Storm would have been awesome as a defense and as a replacement for the reaver drops when he didn't have enough minerals to pay for interceptors AND scarabs. But with all the corsairs even some late DTs could have sniped some hatches...

Damn close! What Maru tried seems quite viable, if only he'd went for HTs instead of reavers. Sure, the scarab hits were great, but in the end it got down to him running out of minerals and sitting on a buttload of gas. Pumping HTs is almost mineral free, and it would've let Maru... release all that gas.

Did you see 15:28 ? Maru is targeting his own probe with a reaver shot and moves the probe next to the lurker while the shot is in the air to kill the lurker with the spalsh. Never seen this done with a reaver, at least not to my memory. Not the best game I have ever seen, but definitely quite entertaining. Well deserved epic tag, simply because it was something different (and actually pretty close). Spire asap to be built: 1. Corsair is such common that making spire early is viable. And if scourge is waiting on the first corsair at the stargate or scourge did kill the first corsair is tremendous big lead in terms of containment and intelligence. 2. Even they did not make stargate, muta is good to snipe shuttle, reaver, zealot, small-number of dragoon, and High-Templars. PS: I would suggest not zooming out unless there are multiple scenes to look on I see ASL observer did most of the screen being default-size unless big-fights coming on. (and graphic enhancement of remastered version just so good) Seeing these public replays on pro-gamers, you would give a score of 9 of 10 to their performance. But then whenever the tournaments come out, the score would just become 19 out of20.

Falcon, burrowed units don't take damage from the splash part of splash attack but still get hit by direct part. That's why burrowed units don't normally take damage under dark swarm

THis is why i love SC:BW more then SC2.. Drops are such a widely used tool, battles on multiple fronts are effective and Zerg uses Macro Hatches :P

I think burrow protect from most splash like tanks and even scarabs. What it was is sometimes when u burrow and scarab is enroute it catches some of the burrowing tings.

Concerning the weird placement for the first hatchery, I think he just didn't wanna bother with the harassing probe blocking his hatchery placement so he just surpised him by going for the macro straight away. Didn't really slow down his mining time

There was a time in BW (in the 2010s or maybe later 2000s) when that became common on some maps as people were blocking natural hatcheries more often, as well as (although this also happened in SC2, maybe more so?) just putting it at the third base. The latter resulted in increasing cannon rushes at the third as well as the natural after a successful natural block in PvZ.

Crazy game man. What a match! I think Maru lost it when Terror's lonely lurker spotted the carriers, then went mass hydras. I mean he was on 3 stargates, had he not been spotted, the reaver + carrier drops would've been devastating. Once he got spotted i guess he couldn't change the mindset and try to use whatever forces he had to expand instead of going all out against Terror's main. That's a costly mistake. Like the 2v2 you uploaded where they thought they could easily 2v1 the terran instead of setting up a blockade and simply expand and let chips fall where they may. Sometimes it's hard to shift from an attacking mindset to a conservative defensive one, and that makes people lose games.

I don't think Corsair/Carrier is all that bad against Zerg. Maru got outmined by 15,000 minerals and hung in for 35 minutes. Like Bill Clinton always said "It's the economy, stupid". Disruption Web was actually doing a great job protecting the carriers. I would've upgraded Corsair energy to be able to use more. Shield Batteries would have been great on this map. Maru could have split his carriers into 2 fleets and could've rotated them back to base to heal. I've been in low econ situations in the past where I'm using carriers. Batteries at 100 minerals are basically broken considering how powerful they are for carriers that can run from any battle, fly in a straight line to regain 150 shield hp and then go right back to fighting. It makes them invincible almost. Plus Zerg has no EMP?! Ya!

Great Game! Maru had it a few times. He got a bit sloppy with his Reaver Play. Also his Disruption Web wasn't that great. He should of shot the disruption web ahead of time and just blanket the entire area with webs, that way there's no real way hydras can attack and since each one can shoot 2 webs.. he would only need to use 4-5 corsairs to block it long enough to to take down the hatchery and leave. OVERALL FUN
