Why does Malaysia has two national days?
Malaysia has two national days because we commemorate two significant events in the country’s history:
Merdeka Day (Hari Merdeka): Celebrated on August 31st, this day marks the independence of the Federation of Malaya from British colonial rule in 1957.
Malaysia Day (Hari Malaysia): Celebrated on September 16th, this day commemorates the formation of Malaysia in 1963, when the Federation of Malaya, North Borneo (now Sabah), Sarawak, and Singapore joined to form Malaysia. (Singapore were separated from Malaysia in 1965)
These two days highlight different aspects of Malaysia’s journey to becoming the nation it is today.
