Fun fact: The Japanese version of the game actually fixes things like the camera and a few bugs while also adding new dialogue and changing the lighting to be brighter.

It's a real shame that Epic Mickey is by no means a perfect game, because it's just so charming. Plus, it's also the game that introduced me to Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, who still stands as my favorite Disney character of all time. I truly do hope that Disney decides to revitalize this series in one way or another, as unlikely as it is. All in all, this was a great watch!

When you began talking about the character interactions and how it sells the story, it made me think about how in the novel written for the first game (It's like one of those movie novels for kids; very short read if you have time to spare and entertaining), Mickey is way different from his game counterpart. While meeting Oswald in game, he's mostly silent and doesn't say much except to ask for help and be reminded of his thinner mistake, but, in the novel, he is slightly sassy towards Oswald, still somewhat polite but at the same time, he gives off "I'm gonna slam this rabbit's head into a table if he doesn't just tell me how to get home since he's being stubborn and obviously knows where the heck the parts to his rocket are." Vibes, his interaction with Oswald more akin to siblings being petty rather than "strangers" who just met. Oswald is mostly the same as his game counterpart, but also has the added cockiness and sass as well, even seeming to deliberately rile Mickey up so they can brawl, tho, Gus immediately shuts that down before it can begin. Overall, the characters (mainly Oswald, Mickey and Gus and possibly the Mad Doctor) have major chemistry that makes me laugh and smile and cry all in one, no matter the platform Epic Mickey is displayed as.

In case you didn’t know this yet, the version of Smee we see in the Epic Mickey games is actually an unused version of Smee from the movie where the color of his hat and shirt were swapped around and the versions of Horus Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow are the 1930s counterparts which are actually pretty different from their modern day versions. Just thought I would put this out here just in case you didn’t already know this, also back in the 2000s and early 2010s Disney was not really using Horus or Clarabelle for much. Part of this game series mission was actually to bring these old forgotten Disney characters back to the public awareness which did sort of work if you think about it. And as to why Peg Leg Pete is there, back in the 1990s and the 2000s Disney stopped using the Peg Leg Pete design and gave him two feet. They did this cause of some controversy thing with his peg leg or something, if someone knows more about this part please tell me. Apart from this stuff though, the video is excellent.

This is the best written epic Mickey analysis I've seen! (2nd place to pastra ofc), it ties in EVERYTHING in a rather short amount of time! I had been watching it, waiting, and ALMOST typing something you didn't cover, but it's all there! Well, minus the fact junction point shutdown, but whatever, but this deserves so much more views and likes than it does as of now!

I gotta say, as great as the story is, it missed a LOT of potential. The emotion could've hit even harder if we spent more time with Oswald, slowed down the cutscenes (especially in Mickeyjunk), and saw more about how he and Mickey felt about Walt. The two lead very different lives with their dad, but they still love and miss him a lot. That alone could've made them see each other in a whole new light. Also, Mickey seriously UNDER-reacted to causing the Thinner Disaster. He practically unleashed Roger Rabbit Dip on lots of innocent toons, including Walt's 1st cartoon star, but all he says is "It's not important?!"

I think the best way to describe the gameplay in the original game is that all three of its gameplay styles-Platformer, Action Adventure, and Immersive Sim- all have really cool moments that stand out on occasion, but they aren’t frequent enough to form a cohesive whole. I think just basic tweaks to the game would’ve improved it A LOT. And that is coming from someone who has over 1000 hours in this game. No, you didn’t read that wrong, I’ve played this game for an ungodly amount of time since I was 5.

I don't think anybody talks about how GOOD Mickey controls. He feels so tight and snappy and awesome to me. Only thing I do not like is his turning and speed, but his air control is just PERFECT.

Mickey feels great to play, honestly. Expecially compared to newer games where I felt the controls kept fighting me all the time, like BotW or other open world games. The only nitpick I have is how he'll kinda just slip off edge sometimes, but that can also be blamed on the rather poor lighting at times.

Fear not good man! They’re actually remaking the first game. It’s gonna be remade in Unity and on the visual side it shows. It looks way better than before. And apparently there will be movement options added to the game, such as a ground pound and a sprint. Camera will probably be better too. I can’t wait for it to come out. I’ve been wanting to play this game for years, but it was stuck on the grandma console.

Although Epic Mickey is my favorite video game of all time, you had some good points about some of its drawbacks, even if I disagree on how big you presented the drawbacks. Despite that, a very in-depth and good review and analysis! I can definitely tell you admired the passion that went into the game and did your research on its conception and development. My only advice is for future videos, to start with the bad and end on the good. The lasting impression I got from this video is that you thought the game is terrible, which I know you stated that you do really like it. It's just the energy of a video, and whatever take you leave off on is what is going to leave the most lasting impression on your audience. Great video, nonetheless! Even the fact that you start with music from No Straight Roads shows you have good taste, and I respect that XD (And at least we can all collectively agree on Epic Mickey 2).

The game is really fun (I hyperfixated on it late last summer and played through the entire thing haha) and I ADORE the soundtrack. I loved these games so unbelievably much. I wish Disney would bring it back and let the og creators do whatever they wanted. According to Warren Spector, he’s been kept in the know with how the remake of the game has progressing. And some of the old devs are working on the remake, along with the new studio. I hope that means the remake will expand on some of the things the game needs, esp with how it focuses on the “different endings”.

I still remember when I got this game because it came out right after my parents took me to Disneyland for the first time in 2010. My favorite ride by far was Its a small world. I was barely 7 and still innocent to the world, seeing all nations dance and sing in unison really resonated with me and I forced my poor mom to go on it 5 times in a row haha. When you get to the messed up Disneyland park in Epic Mickey it genuienly shook me to the core. Of course nowadays the game isn't scary but as a child it was horrific. Coming from the happiest place on earth to a twisted reality with missing eyes dumbos and a small world with poison water and horror music messed me up 💀

Honestly i get why the camera is a major issue everyone talks about, but lately I've been replaying Epic Mickey 1 on the Wii and somehow, I actually don't really have any problems with it, just a nitpick about it that feels a bit bad. You know how the 'C' button centers your camera behind Mickey? Well, for some reason everytime you center the camera, Mickey comes to a full stop IF you're moving. Every single time. While i get why some people wouldn't like controlling the camera like this if Mickey didn't stop in his tracks when it happens, it's probably the best option you have aside the remote's D-Pad

An easy way the morality system could’ve been fixed was just making either paint or thinner more powerful at erasing/filling depending on the route, bringing the scrapper and hero mickey concepts back, and making it so for the thinner route, the blot is indeed defeated but ortensia is not reverted back to normal, mickey is noticeably more mad than sorry towards yen sid, and oswald and the rest of the characters are just very mad with the conditions mickey left wasteland in.

I grew up on the 3DS. I’ve never played any of the two mainline games but with the recent announcement of the remaster of the first game I’m thinking about picking it up. I’ve seen a lot of videos about the first game, but I barely ever hear anybody mention the second game or the 3DS one. At first I thought it was because the second game was just bad but people love to complain on the Internet. How is there Not a three hour retrospective about how bad the second game is? And the 3DS game is honestly pretty decent, so I’m not sure why no one talks about that. I guess it’s only the first game people care to talk about. I think it would be cool if they added voice acting to the first game to make the emotional cut scenes hit even harder

I had no issues with the controls or the camera at all. I do agree though that the morality system was a missed oppurtunity, but that was due to how limited they were with the Wii and had to cut content including an intended Alice In Wonderland section. I do have high hopes for the remake. Especially with leaks showing multiple outfits.

I love this game so much, but it definitely has its flaws. I am hoping the remake isn't 100% faithful like it's being advertised, because what this game needs is a good mix of faithfulness and innovation. I still pull it out to play every few years, but for whatever reason, the World of Gremlins is always a test to get through without a bit of burnout. I also didn't grow up with Disney World, so I had no knowledge whatsoever of the world the Wasteland is based on. The Wasteland is so well themed and designed it feels amazing and immersive to explore even without prior awareness of the parks. And seeing what current WDW is like, this is still my preferred version lol I will stand by Oswald being the only good investment Iger ever made, I will die on this hill.

its really shocking to me that Epic Mickeys morality system is honestly one of the weakest parts of it considering this game was directed by the same guy that directed Deus EX, THE GAME THAT IS AWESOME BECAUSE OF ITS MORALITY SYSTEM. this is one of my childhood games that i will prolly talk about it alot with others till i am 300 years in my deathbed but i am aware of its flaws and just wish they remake the game (not only cus i want them to fix its issues but to hopefully give the developers a chance to go all out with the games concepts and story).

I always wanted to try this game but always got sidetracked. I guess that wish will be granted this year or ealry next year. It is weird that Buena Vista is associated with Disney's arguably two best video game franchises involving Mickey Mouse that are not kid's/edutainment games. And then they strangled one in the crib before it flourish forcing the creators to give up due to poor sales, while other escaped because it was being handled mainly by a company not directly owned by Disney. I feel like there is some depressing analogy there. Also, the number of leaks for Refurbished (I love THQ Nordic's creative remake/remaster names for the games they've done so far) seems suspicious as they are coming out too easily. It feels like this being done intentionally to build up hype.

Yeah, but for me, it's so bad sometimes it's good like when Oswald keeps running into shit while walking around and not needed, it makes my ADHD monkey brain excited and laugh like a crackhead at how silly Oswald is. That and when I accidentally get Mickey caught in Oswald's electricity zap. Just him saying "Be careful!" Makes me giggle like a gremlin and then I purposely get him caught a second time!
