Ive made a 4 layer snickers cake for my dad and sister's birthday. It was alternating chocolate and vanilla cake. Between each layer of cake there was a layer of nutella, a layer of peanut butter buttercream, a sprinkling of chopped nuts and a drizzle of caramel. To decorate, I iced the cake in peanut butter buttercream and did a border of chopped nuts and a caramel drip with piping and mini snickers on the top. Im not even joking, the cake tasted like snickers. (i just wanted to say, Im 17 and I have a small cake business and do orders. I can credit a lot of that to you as you were and are one of my biggest inspirations when I was learning to bake and decorate cakes so thank you. I hope I can improve even more and start making novelty cakes like you) xxx

I just made my son a root beer float cake that looked like a root beer float. It had vanilla cake with root beer simple syrup, and root beer flavored Swiss meringue buttercream. Then covered with fondant to look like a mug.

I am a retired professional cake decorator. I so agree with you about the many challenges a cube cake presents. I will never forget a customer who was outraged at the price I quoted her for a set of baby blocks cake. her comment was "What? it's such a simple shape, I could do it myself if I knew how to decorate". It took a lot of self-control to not answer her back with "if you knew how to decorate, you'd know that simple shape isn't easy to achieve in cake."

Amazing cake and looks tasty too. I agree that as our kids grow up they make their cake designs more complicated. My daughter wanted a three tier cake with a lot of gold decorations. Showed me a picture and I created my own interpretation of it. Used your ultimate chocolate cake recipe as well as caramel buttercream 🤤 It was delicious

So my mom told me not to go into much trouble and just make her a simple cake for her birthday. Something easy and simple she said. Some minutes later she told me I could perhaps make the chocolate cake with the 7 layers. She went from simple and easy to the Setteveli cake which has a crunchy hazelnut bottom, a jaconde biscuit and several layers of chocolate and crème anglaise. Yeah, sure that's easy, breezy, beautiful...

I know the filling too well... doing extra detailed/complex cakes for your children.... you love them, and you want their birthday to be the best.... but the process is almost as painful as labour.😂 In my case, I'm to blame most of the time because I'll suggest themes and ideas, but obviously, they pick the hardest of them all.
