My favorite part of Patrick's build here is his wetland work. The swim pond portion is ridiculous obviously, but those wetland sections are absolutely stunning. I'm actually considering expanding my pond to make an additional river/wetland area just because I want to copy the crap out of Patrick's wetland's on this build. Great video as always Ed, glad you are back home safe. Be careful out there!

Absolutely amazing feature. After a few years of operation, are they now finding that much sediment builds up in the deep area just before the intake bay? Seems that maybe a lot of fined debris would settle out there. Also the shallow water area of the sand beach, behind the jets. I'd be curious to see how that looks when the sand is really stirred up. Great video.

I have been waiting for this video! Your take on this amazing pond ecosystem, words cannot articulate how much I appreciate your narration of how this pond works. I have a rather simple question on my own system. Question, I have, what research tells me are black fly larva in my biofalls. Every once in a while I hose them into the pond for the koi... Oh, I have 1700 gallons with 35 koi/goldfish and one turtle.. are the black fly larvae actually a sign of a healthy system or should I get them out of there? I don't have and cannot have an in-ground pond, so I set up an above ground pool as an ecosystem pond. I have an Aquascape pump and pre-filter going to an Aquascape small biofalls. I also have a non Aquascape pump that creates a fountain and ads another filter and a bit more circulation and aeration. This summer I will be creating a Wetland filter using a kiddie pool... I have it in my mind, just need to make it happen!
@edbeaulieu59164 жыл бұрын
Cathleen Baldwin Maggi Thanks for your support and feedback Cathleen! Black fly larvae are a very normal occurrence in aquatic ecosystems and I do the exact same thing as you do! Hosing them off into the pond for the fish to feast on is a great natural food source for your fish!
@moluskamenace20424 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed, what is the nanobubble? Is it different with normal bubble?
@edbeaulieu59164 жыл бұрын
Moluska menace Yes, a big difference, normal bubbles are visible and will rise to the surface quickly, nano-bubbles are invisible to the unaided eye and they’re neutrally buoyant so they stay in the water for a long time...... This greatly increases the dissolved oxygen

@edbeaulieu59164 жыл бұрын
andy wilson How big is your pond and how many fish do you have?
@andywilson87944 жыл бұрын
It's roughly 400 gallons with a small waterfall the string allergy didn't start till this winter
@GregWittstockThePondGuy4 жыл бұрын
andy wilson very possible it gets controlled when the ecosystem kicks in with warmer temps. An Iongen will work immediately
@edbeaulieu59164 жыл бұрын
andy wilson Algae growth in the winter months is beneficial because the biological filter is not working as efficiently so algae will pickup the slack and utilize any excess nutrients, I don’t recommend algal treatments during the colder winter months

I have a question for the Beach area, how deep is it? my concern is that wouldn't all the sand eventually get pushed into the pond? how do you keep the sand there without it all going into the pond and expose the liner?

In Florida, most of the homes on more than an acre, have ponds as a result of digging a hole for the landfill under the house. Most have wells to feed them. Most have no liners and are lucky to have an aerator. It would be great to have a system for these type ponds. Turning them into a useful and healthy ecosystem.

Do things like sunscreen, hairspray and other various products that people often wear affect the water quality? I would think the introduction of dozens or even hundreds of people would eventually have an impact on the water clarity.
@EdThePondProfessor Жыл бұрын
Great question! We always recommend Reef Safe sun products which are more biodegradable, We had a study on a Large Recreational Pond and in the study(completed by third party testing) they determined the water quality increased with more people?!?! It’s a strange result and the only theory to explain it is through the constant agitation of the water. When agitated the finer sediments are kept in suspension and removed through the pre filter and wetland filtration system.
