Thank you for this GREAT Commodore retro content!!! Two years ago, when I bought my plus/4, C16 and C116, 2 of them had dead CPUs. Two years ago, I found 1 from England and 2 from Hungary. I bought all 3 of them and with shipping I spent over $300 for the 3 CPUs so it seems from your search that the prices have come down some from their cost 2 years ago.

I bought 3 Plus 4s years ago and 2 of them had dead CPUs. It has to be Commodores most unreliable CPU ever made. Back then the CPU was $25 which was almost the cost of each Plus 4 then. It will be nice if someone makes a cheap alternative FPGA CPU or ARM CPU or something. Thanks for the great video as always.

Teure Angelegenheit.... Ich würde mich da auf den plus 4 und den c116 konzentrieren, das sind die wirklich teuren Modelle. Zumindest in Europa...

CPU's fail a lot more than TED chips, out of the 4x 264's I have 3 had dead CPU's and 1 had a dead TED. CPU replacements, NOS or pulls are a risk (if you do go this rout, look for late 80's date codes). The 6510 & ROM is less compatible than the 6502 board, because of the ROM mods & anything that pokes the IO port directly may not work. Also, it is being over clocked in the 264. However, I used 2 of the 6510 mods to fix my machines and have had no issues (excluding that the tape port not working) The 6502 board should be 100% compatible, I'm not sure why someone was having issues, as long as you use a 2Mhz NMOS chip. even a CMOS chip should be 99%

I will try the 6502 board.

There is a cheap replacement for the Commodore TED series PLA from Daniel Mantione who also made the GAL PLA for the C64. It is called the PLA16V8. I used it myself to repair a C16.

Cool! I had a replacement PLA but can‘t recall which one.

19:23 - I had this same issue... all lower case boot screen and it turned out to be the PLA (NTSC machine).

You can use a 6510 with an adapter. That’s another option. You can buy the adapter board from pcbway. Still 6510’s are now also expensive

That lowercase TED was tired of shouting for all its life. I wonder what it looks like with games.

Those machaines also have horrible sockets. Sometimes the chips work with some cleaning and deoxit. Long shot, but still worth doible checking them out.
