Man I live in southern Michigan and I have absolutely no idea where to go to consistently catch these fish one time when I was fishing in Berrien Springs with skein i caught one. So surprised i almost fell in the river. I just thought it was a big ass brown trout until i got that sucker out the water. I probably just live a little too south for consistent salmon activity but i do go try. Wish i lived up by you. Totally agree on the trash thing. This year I had a really bad experience in Mishawaka Indiana while steelhead fishing. Some very poorly behaved anglers that took the fun out of a particularly nice hole. Wanted it all to themselves and this guy just said things to me that were making me feel inferior. I didnt go back out for a couple weeks. In all of my life I have never run into someone without class on the water so I thought of fisherman as all good natured people. Opened my eyes to the darker side of fishing, the actual kind of guys who leave those messes and heckle people sure give all of us a bad name

Nice video Freddy. Totally agree with you. If you don’t snag the fish they will bite A lot longer. But at The same time too. Snagging is a tradition. That has been around a long time. I personally myself. Do not mind seeing people doing it. As long as there keeping fish for food purpose. And not overtake you. Some people only get to go once or a few times a year. And as long as they are not wasting them. Or littering our banks woods and all of Mother Nature. It is just another method of harvesting. No different than using a crossbow black powder rifle Long bow recurve or compound. To harvest the Whitetail. As long as you enjoy it do right by nature and the animals. I personally see nothing wrong with it. But everyone has their own thoughts on the subject. I wish everyone a safe and fun prosperous season.

Actually you are lining them. It's a snagging teqnicue for snagging fish especially salmon in the mouth. They are stacked up waiting for the river to rise with rain. And then they will pass to their spawning areas . Salmon don't eat when they are running to spawn. Only steelhead do.

If salmon are no longer eating when they come up river to spawn, why do they bite salmon eggs?

@jaybee32042 жыл бұрын
I think when they are new in the river, they still eat here and there. I do well with skein through mid September, then aggression bites on plugs or spinners are about it for me. Do you have luck the whole season on eggs Frey?

It depends, I had great luck on skein in mid to late October years ago when I first started but I haven't really been able to replicate that much since. Like you say, the hardware bite usually holds up through the end of the run

Thank god someone with a decent following is actually encouraging people not to snag. Way to many youtubers talking so big about flossing these days, they're really ruining it for everyone. Flossing is snagging and snagging aint fishing. Fishing is getting fish to bite your presentation, not ripping a hook through a school and hoping you hook one in the mouth.

Damn!! Some nice fish there. I've never fished for salmon before but I'd absolutely love to. I purchased an 8wt rod and reel, late last year for this and steelhead, but I've never had the opportunity to try it yet. I'm very new to fly fishing and have been practicing here and there, when I'm able to, with the 5wt rod I purchased with the 8wt. I'm not good, at all, but I'll get there. I only know of one guy who fly fishes for these and the steelies, but we've never been able to connect and get out. He fishes all the time and has offered to help me with a few patterns he ties and with the leaders formulas he uses, but our schedules clash pretty horribly. Anyway, sorry for the story and again, fantastic fish. Looks like y'all had a killer time. Do you keep any or just CPR? Peace and tight lines.
