*My solution*. My toilet had mineral deposits settle onto the bottom which had then stained over time. Even with my glove on, I could feel the hard, sandy texture of the minerals. Finally, I decided to empty and dry the bowl then added about 2 cups of white vinegar. I didn’t check on it for 4 hours but when I did, it had all dissolved. Also, I’ve had a couple of hard water/mineral deposits problems in areas that can’t hold standing water. In that case I’ve placed a folded paper towel on the area and saturated it with the vinegar and let it set. It has pulled up the deposits every single time with no damage to the surfaces.

One has to be careful putting tablets into the toilet tank. My Chemical Engineer husband told me long ago to not put anymore of the tablets containing bleach into the tank, as bleach will break down the composition of the rubber stoppers/sealing gaskets in the tank, making them hard, brittle, and prone to cracking. Also, the caps that cover the two bolts holding the seat onto the main toilet can get pretty grungy. They flip up for cleaning and snap back down, covering the bolts.

You could start with a chlorine bleach based gel product and let it work for 30 minutes, flush then repeat the treatment. It will take most dirt and grime, and after flushing it will be easy to decide what type of other products to go for. It can be hard to tell what is basic grime, rust or other stubborn staining to begin with. For the stubborn stains under water level, poor a bucket of hot water down there, then have some laundry washing powder, white wash with enzymes and let it sit for a while, even over night. It often does the trick when other cleaners don`t do much.

If you lift the caps that connect the seat and slid forward the seat comes away from the bowl. Makes cleaning so much easier

I’m very impressed with the toilet. Tyfs I’m dealing with the same rust and stuff in my toilet bowl. Not gonna lie, I’m planning on upgrading my toilet but my plumber told me it’s not needed. He did use a pumice stone, and it looks better so I will take it from there and we will see what happens!

@Clean Freak and Germaphobe. You're such a sweet woman, my toilets are stained like hers and I've tried different things. I'm disabled and keeping the house clean is extremely difficult. I'm so embarrassed of my toilets but it's truly the mineral deposits I'm so ashamed of.

We really try to teach in a way that doesn't shame. The mess can be filthy or gross but doesn't mean the person is. Just like you, there are reasons that aren't so simple. When I saw this, I was excited/happy because I really wanted to see if rust products truly work. However, I didn't have rusty toilets to test it on. :)

That is not a rust hard water issue that is more then likely a diabetic is using that toilet and if they are not tightly controlled then it does that to your toilet. My mom's toilet always looked like that and she did not have her glucose levels under control. My grandmother had her glucose very well controlled and only once in a while did her toilet get like that.

Why not use a powdered kitchen cleanser like Ajax or bar keeper friend? they are abrasive without causing damage like the pumice stone can.
@CleanFreakGermaphobe2 жыл бұрын
Ironically my latest video tested this. Much, much more work and scrubbing. Both will scratch a little bit if you have a ring that means it’s already scratched. Just by chemicals like the water and anything else in it.

If you want to get the water out of the bowl just simply cut the water off from the tank and flush the water out of the bowl with the handle on the tank.

I'm sure she's well aware. The shut off valve could very well be corroded. It's not her house so I doubt she's going to go out and by a new valve and install it.

That bathroom as a whole doesn't even look like it's ever been cleaned. The walls and the floor are absolutely gross. I think all bathrooms that are Built-in homes should have a floor drain. A video that I would like to see made by someone is how to get out the smell in the walls of a bathroom especially around a toilet. I bought a house where the previous owner obviously did not take care of the bathroom walls around the toilet. It seems no matter what I do the urine smell just will not come out. I have 2 choices, tear out the drywall and redo it or put in tile. I am open to suggestions or solutions.

The best way to remove limescale is neat vinegar. And I think a new toilet seat is required you can see the MDF board.

I stopped reading after the first 60 comments so don't know if anyone else suggested this but a method I used to remove "permanent" stains (those that resisted standard cleaning products) is to turn off the water supply, drain toilet then fill with white vinegar above the stain line and leave for at least 12 hours (24 if possible). the disgusting brown stains lift off, almost in one piece (yuck!) when wiped with a sponge & any standard cleaning product. Obviously, this won't work for under the rim and it won't remove all mineral deposit build up but no more brown stains or rust!

I don't get why you don't just buy a new seat. It can cost $10-$20 for a brand new one and takes Waaaay less time to just replace and it's perfect. I replace my seat as a maintenance thing. You cannot get into those spots without removing it anyway. I love to clean the holes that hold the seat too when I switch it out. Just seems pointless to try cleaning the seat at all. Just toss it.
@CleanFreakGermaphobe2 жыл бұрын
Towards the end of the video that was her conclusion too. Sometimes you live in an old house and don't have a big budget and even if it doesn't cost a lot it still takes skills and effort that is going to other things. But yes, it's so much better and I was happy she wanted to replace it. Also it gives me things to test with to see what works. Ideally, you try to fix first and toss less. Because of the waste. That's one motivation for me to clean.
@lovegodfirst6542 жыл бұрын
@@CleanFreakGermaphobe I tried cleaning a seat at first, but you can never get it clean. It costs more for the cleaning supplies than just getting a new seat. You can try cleaning it, but it gets exhausting. Sometimes we just gotta let go and start over.

First spray and clean the part around the toiled then remove te lid and sitting part and buy new one, then the rusty bowl is last left, u gonna rescue it via vinegar and backing soda rub it together in 30min and brush it off. All this should give u a nice and clean toilet.

I found the easiest way to remove water from a bowl is to pour a bucket of water into it, just enough so the bowl will siphon empty. Leaving just a small amount in the trap. Works every time.
