Hi Kristin! you know at one time, not so long ago the metal world was at a loss on how to go about bringing all the metal genres together to form a cohesive ,well represented and mutually satisfying whole just as physicists from the times of Einstein and Oppenheimer have for the longest time been working to arrive at a formula to account for all the major forces in the universe ( the so called uniform field theory) i ,for the longest time, believed Simone and Mark have struck such note with the formation of Epica and when i hear this masterpiece, or canvass of life and tides o time for what maybe 100 thousandth time and yet, it still sounds as though its my 1st or when i listen to their last album, i am more than ever convinced that this is the very summit of symphonic metal ideal

the distortions might as well be coming from her since she always boasts how Mark and she are always on the same mental wavelength do not know is you had a chance to react to "kingdom of heaven" yet, but its is an even more impactful masterpiece than this gem. without question it is much more complex and just as hauntingly beautiful. two beautiful ballads ,written by the enchanting Simone, i would like to submit for your consideration are canvas of life and tides of time.

It's always cool and also weird to watch this particular edit to this song. Cause some of this compiled footage is from the first Epica show I attended (shot from above, from a balcony). I never watched this particular video before this year, so I didn't even know that footage was used. It's not my footage, but I just know it's from that show cause I've watched that and other videos from that show tons.

If you want to listen to something different from them you might be interested in listening to "Once upon a nightmare" The song itself is based upon an old horrific Nordic fairy-tale transformed to a Poem by Wolfgang von Goethe (basically the German Shakespeare) called The Erlking (Der Erlkönig) . The musical buildup is like the soundtrack of a movie with of sense foreboding of the tragedy about to happen. The story is about a father racing through the night to get help for his sick son. That, in his fever-state, is having visions of goblin king trying to seduce him to enter the land of the dead. No growling in this song and Simone just sounds devine. The tragic conclusion makes this a piece of art. If you are not having goosebumps by the end of the song i would consult a doctor. :) Beneath you will find the original version and literal English translation of the poem mentioned. Epica recently released a vid for "Kingdom of Heaven" track itself is bout 10yrs old.. 13 minutes of epicaness.. kinda felt weird hearing that 1 after the big Nightwish masterpiece.. Epica slowly growing on me.. still not convinced yet loved the reaction
