You saw the choir, but behind the metal band is an Orchestra, led by the conductor with the wand. They did do another song together at this concert. It was an old hymn sung in Latin with only the Orchestra backing them. The audience is silent and in awe of the gorgeous harmonies Stabat Mater Dolorosa.

@@jandshy I have not seen the whole concert, but I understand the Orchestra and choir were there for the whole show, as it was a special 10th anniversary concert. Floor only joined Simone on stage for 2 songs.

@@jandshy the orchestra and choir were present during the whole show. ( Epica uses orchestra and choir on every song on every album since 2003) The show lasted for about 3 hours. It was, like mentioned in the comments, Epica's 10th Anniversary show called Retrospect and took place in March 2013. They invited some friends to join, three former Epica members and also Floor was invited. She did two songs with Epica this show. Epica already released 8 studio albums. So enough to choose from..they also released earlier this month their pre- recored live stream show from last june 12th. This is called Omega Alive. So Retrospect and Omega Alive are both ' must have seen shows' from this band.

@@jandshy I have another interesting suggestion for you: Serenade Of Self-Destruction (live at Retrospect) kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5m6aHicnqeqo5I This is one of the epica multi-part songs from Epica. What is special about this one is that it shows many different facets of Simone's singing. Overall, it is a heavy song, but with some very quiet parts. Given it is from the Retrospect show, you also get the full orchestra and choir. This song is not often reacted too, but it is as worthwhile as most of the more popular reaction songs. So this song helps you being a bit different from the other reactors.

Folk metal is a real thing. Checkout Eluveitie (Call of the Mountain) or Saltatio Mortis (My Mother Told Me). For more Epica I recommend Design your Universe from the same concert, Utopia Unleashed or Kingdom of Heaven from the Omega Alive livestream concert.

Hi J & Shy, you just discovered a rare gem, Epica are an incredible band, Epica are from the Netherlands (Dutch the same as Floor), they have been around for almost 20 years and have made 8 incredible studio albums, the latest of which (Omega) was released earlier this year, Epica's lead singer is Simone Simons (pronounced Simmons), she considers herself to be a contemporary and classical singer, not a metal singer at all, she became the singer for Epica when she was only 17, as you will discover she is incredible, Floor and Simone are two of the best singers in the world right now in my opinion

This is from Epica's 10th anniversary concert called Retrospect where they had a full Orchester and Choir on stage for the occasion. Floor and Simone are very interconnected and I won't go into the details here. This concert was in 2013. Priro to this, in 2010/11, Epica (Simone's band) and ReVamp (Floors band at the time) did a European tour. during that tour, Floor would join simone on stage for Sancta Terra, while Simone would appear as a guest for Floor on another song. So they actually have quite some practice singing Sancta Terra together. There are also a number of other combination of vocalists singing Sancta Terra, but none of them at the same quality of this performance.

Floor is good friends with Simone the Epica vocalist and another of the band played in one of Floor's bands . Also Floor is married to a member of Sabaton. I'm sure ull get to them. What I'm really interested in is u reaction to beste zangers. Floor sings songs to other artists, sometimes there own work, sometimes something important to them. At the time she was kinda not as well known there. She sings shallow (lady gaga), a very popular salsa song ( que se seiete) , a pop song , a classical song, phantom of the opera, she nails each 1. She's that good. Forgot , she covered Disney frozen song for her daughter. Her daughter loved the movie so, floor being Floor. ..killed it.

Nice one - please keep reacting to Epica - like Nightwish they are one of a kind - Actualy, Floor and Mark (guitarist, growler/screamer, lyricist and composer) use to be in the same band After Forever - when Mark left After Forever to start his own band, he asked Simone (then 17) to be the front woman of the band. Simone started training and singing with an operatic voice after discovering Nightwish - and now, you are (partly) full circle.

A lot of fun watching you guys trying to process new experiences. You didn't have a pigeon hole for this kind of stuff...nobody does. This Epica track is surreal with guitars /drums and two of the best opera singers you'll find outside the world of dickie bow ties and medieval histrionics.

It's very simple - It's called symphonic metal. It is extremely popular in Europe, South America, Russian and many other parts of the world - except USA where the usual comment is "why haven't I heard this before?" - to which the answer is - your loss we've been enjoying it for 20 years.

Hi J & Shy, Epica are a phenomenal band, the other big Symphonic metal band, Epica and Nightwish are in a league pf their own, Epica are generally heavier and more symphonic than Nightwish, both bands are fantastic but have their own styles, I'll leave you a few suggestions for more Epica songs in the comments :)

I think it's because that style is used in opera, just like people calling growls metal voices.

Because they are sopranos singing in their head-voice register. There are other songs in which they still act as sopranos but use other registers.
