Only hellblade has animation level several tiers higher than this video. It is as if Epica had an extremely tight deadline for animators, so they wanted to do their best, but had to sacrifice too much of the quality for the sake of deadline.

One of the reasons I loved Epica from the very beginning is not just their amazing composition and instrumentation, but their lyrics. They have actual substance, they go far far beyond the trivial and superficial lyrics you find in mainstream music, making that stuff look like nursery rhymes for the intellectual capability of toddlers. In their albums they explored philosophical themes like religious ferver, epistemology, quantum mechanics and they seem uncompromisingly liberal (sorry Americans, not in your sense of "liberal"). This very piece is a prime example of latter. I like every single aspect of them, please never stop.

I honestly think the symphonic elements have gotten stronger too. It's kind of ironic because Isaac (at least I think it was him) said that they're focusing more on being a metal band with symphonic flourishes rather than a symphonic band with metal tendencies.

@@szymonkosowski1154 listen to the phantom agony. You can clearly tell that the symohonic elements are stronger. There is a whole classical orchestra behind the album. Epica was a pure symphonic metal band. The phantom agony is the definition of symhonic metal. Even the vocal techniques simone used to do. They were proggy back then as well. But their symphonic elements started to get weaker. Which is good at some point but bad at another one. Epica is still my favorite symphonic metal band though.(if we are gonna count symphony x as a prog band) They are still making great music. But for my personal taste their first 3 albums are the best ones.
