This song is actually an adaptation of a classical piece by the French composer Camille Saint-Saëns from the 1870's, called "La Danse Macabre". If you check a video with the original, you'll see how close Epica's version is -- they've added lyrics and a guitar solo, but that's basically it. The original piece is actually on a Halloween theme itself, including the use of the xylophone to evoke the sound of bones clunking against each other. The term "La Danse Macabre" (or sometimes "the dance of the dead" in English) is a legend from the Middle Ages about how the skeletons of the dead would rise from their graves at midnight on Halloween and dance until daybreak. PS: Congratulations, you are the first American reactor who pronounces "macabre" correctly!! 😀💐🎉

Happy Halloween to my favorite witchie 👻🎃🕷🕸🖤 I knew you would love this song. They really did a great job with it and their music really tied in well with the music from the original haunted castle of The Efteling, which they used now for the new Haunted ride in this Dutch Theme Park. I've been to the old haunted castle many times since I was a little girl, so this made my heart happy.

This song is an amazing collaboration between Epica and Dutch (and Europe's second most visited) themepark Efteling for their new attraction Danse Macabre, which opened today! The video actually is shot at the Danse Macabre. :)

What a lovely, spooky surprise to wake up with 👻 Thank you for this and Happy Halloween to you, beautiful Black Magic Witchy Woman 🖤 First time hearing this song and seeing the video and I love it. The Efteling is a very popular theme park over here, so it's super cool that Epica is now part of that.

Epica was asked by themepark Efteling to sing the already existing song Danse Macabre. They probably added the Ghost In Me title but the song is the already existing song Danse Macabre. Epica just altered the song a bit. Epica did a collaboration with the second most visited themepark in Europe called Efteling. for the opening of their new dark ride also called Danse Macabre. The dark ride Danse Macabre is a run down haunted monastery. It was invented by people in Efteling with a total new ride mechanism so this dark ride you will not see in other themeparks in the world.. Danse Macabre is a danse with the dead. That is also what the dark ride called Danse Macabre is in Efteling. It is a danse with epic music, a ride with spinning church benches and a visual display of creepy things you would see in a run dow monastery. The waiting line leads you through a cemetery with music and moving parts. Efteling is one of the oldest themeparks in the world. It has a huge fairytale forest which you can get lost in for hours, some of the best dark rides in the world and rollercoasters. It is filled with fairies, goblins, fairytales and even the ATM and garbage cans are themed. The garbage cans are depicted as funny men who suck up garbage. Kids see this as a game so kids try to find as much garbage as they can to put in the garbage sucking trashs can so the park is always clean. They have the man / puppet with the longest neck in the world called "Long Neck" and also a big statue donkey that poops golden Efteling coins. Kids also see this as game to catch those golden Efteling coins. At the opening of Danse Macabre the waiting line was 4 hours to get in this dark ride. People from other countries came for the opening of Danse Macabre and it was all over the news on tv. Americans and English peope who visited Efteling have called Efteling the dark version of Disney because Efteling doesnt sugarcoat the original fairytales by the brothers Grimm like Disney does. Efteling is built in a nature reserve and is not owned by a big corporation like Disney. It is owned by a foundation that is why prices of entree, food and hotel are lower than Disney. Is Efteling only for kids !? No, it is a family themepark it has something for everyone playgrounds for children, some of the best dark rides in the world, rollercoasters and dualing rollercoasters. Efteling was built before Disney parks even existed and the dark ride Danse Macabre, Epica sang the song in front of, is one of the most expensive haunted houses (monastery) in the world. It cost 35 million euros to built it. So it is not only a couple of animatronics you'll see. Unfortunately the onride video of Danse Macabre doesnt show clearly what people see during the ride. You have to be on the ride at least 3 times to be able to see it all. When you ask someone from the Netherlands what should I visit besides Amsterdam most would say go to Efteling. Since Efteling is one of the oldest themeparks in the world, as said it was built before Disney parks even existed, a lot of themeparks that were built later took inspiration from Efteling. One example is the first ever Madhouse that was built in the world. Later on other themeparks copied that idea of Madhouses making them even better. A madhouse is where the room spins around you so you think you sit on the walls or the ceiling. There are lots of videos in English of people from England and the US on KZbin who vlogged about their visit to Efteling.

I hope that you know, or will check out, the ORIGINAL song. I will point you to the rabbit hole: The original is Danse Macabre, by Camille Saint-Saëns, written in 1875(!). This song is a (very well done) reinterpretation of that. Also (I don’t want tot go in too much detail) it is firmly engrained into Dutch culture. The attraction, which uses the same music, replaces an old (45yrs) attraction ‘het Spookslot’, with the same theme. One of the iconic set-pieces was a yellow, floating violin. The old Spookslot was opened with Kate Bush singing. The new attraction opens on October 31st and is a reimagining of the same theme with many unique technologies in it. All this points back to tales from the Middle Ages, where the stories were built about dancing with the Dead. De Efteling is a THEME park like no other. IMO one of the best (and oldest) in the world. Do they have the ‘fastest’ coasters? The ‘tallest drops’? No, they don’t. De Efteling are not about that. They are STORY TELLERS. A day at De Efteling will put you in a world of old (not Disneyfied!) European folk tales and local myths. You really should view some videos from vloggers who went there. Especially Americans are often delighted to learn of the fairy tales of old, but not in the Disney way, but in their original, and often darker, form…

A spooky song that I recommend is “The Nightmare Corpse-City of R’lyeh”, by Mare Infinitum. They are a Russian doom metal band, and that song is based on a story by H.P. Lovecraft.
