There is no band like Epica. In this one, Simone is only 19 and the guys are few years older. The amount of talent to write such a song and perform it like that in such a young age with all the other musicians.. just amazing. And, to grow and evolve from there to become even better and better for 20 years is unbelievable.

This is one of the greatest masterpieces in symphonic metal! Beautiful! Did you enjoy the last 3 minutes of purely orchestral sound? 🙂 It's from their debut album (2003) titled "The Phantom Agony". The performance is from a 2004 live TV studio session. Yes, Epica is a Dutch band. The blond singer is American (living in Germany), her name is Amanda Somerville and she was Simone's vocal coach at the time.

It was a pleasure to give you this recommendation! Epica puts all the emotions in me like almost no other band! Yes, Amanda Somerville (from USA) was the vocal coach of none other than Floor Jansen and Simone Simons, She filled in for Simone on the 2008 North American tour when she was very sick. She worked on the vocal lines for Epica until their fifth album.

Yes, the blond lady was/is Simone's voice coach, she is Amanda Somerville, American, vocal coach, backing/choir vocals, producer. Known for her work with After Forever (Floor & Mark Jansen’’s first band) Epica (Mark Jansen, Simone Simons) Avantasia, Kamelot, and more. The black hair layd in the choir is Coen Janssen's (Epica's keyboardist) wife. Linda Janssen. Simone was 19 when the video was recorded for the dutch TV.

Title track to their1st album released in 2003. This is the same 2004 performance as the Cry For the Moon video you did (that stayed up) , the one Frank sent you. I haven't listened to this one in a while. Keep forgetting how good it is. lol. Lyrics by Mark Jansen. Mark, former guitarist ,Ad Sluijter, and former bassist Yves Huts on the music. Yes, the blonde backup singer is Amanda Somerville , the vocal coach. She is American, born in Michigan, but moved to Europe at age 20.

Amanda Somerville is a great singer in her own right, performing with Avantasia, Epica, Trillium, After Forever, Edguy, Kamelot , Kiske/Somerville, Aina , Exit Eden and many guest appearances - one time Simone got sick and Amanda stepped up to the mic and sang an entire Epica set - she is married to & has 3 children with guitarist Sander Gommans, who was in After Forever with Floor Jansen and Mark Jansen, the growler guitarist in Epica - a lot of intertwining in these European Symphonic Metal bands

I’m having the best Saturday morning, y’all doing some great music videos. You know how much I love EPICA. They are so talented. Most of them 4 out of 6 all have several degrees in music. As I suggested in the previous video, if you invest in gas masks with build in microphones and headphones, it doesn’t only come in handy for when the puppies are relaxing some muscles 😂 but you don’t have to worry about you not being pretty. 😂🤣

I see that Kyle already provided most of the essential information. Let me just add a few more pieces of trivia: The dark haired women next to Amanda is Linda van Summeren (now Linda Janssen, the wife of Coen the keyboard player). Linda has been a faithfull background singer for Epica until today. You will see her credited on the Omega album and the Alchemist project EP. The Phantom Agony is the title track of Epica's first album. It started the tradition that the title track of each album is an epic long track. So if you are looking for epic Epica songs, just take ther album titles and look for the songs with the same names. ;-) The Phantom Agony is also the first song for which they shot a music video. It was initially quite low quality but has been remastered and rereleased together with a lot of other stuff for Epica's 20th anniversary last year. Among the remastered stuff, you will find the live studio recording from 2004 featuring this song (initially released on DVD as "We will take you with us"), the Paradiso show from 2006 and the old music videos.

Epica's songs are generally fantastic ballads or great songs varying between soft and heavy, and giant masterpieces. Phantom Agony belongs to the giant masterpieces category. Epica has obviously overtaken NW as the premier "name" symphonic metal band in the past few years. They bring an epic majesty, both composition and lyrics, that NW seems to have lost. I will admit, Epica is not my favorite symphonic metal band, but they are very, very good. Enjoying your discovery of new bands like Epica and Leaves' Eyes. I have to agree with you, AGAIN!! Especially the last NW album didn’t do it for me personally. The one before that was so so as well. EPICA is my number one Symphonic Metal band. I have to be honest though, it also depends on my mood, which band is my favorite. There is so much good music out there. Especially European bands.
