alhamdulillah. my father just passed away last moth and this talk benefits me much. also, i like the way YQ present his talk kind of academic where all opinions and angle are presented, sources cited before summarizing his own opinion rather than pushing one opinion down our throats.

Jazakallah khair ya Sheikh ! I always criticized my mother every time she read Quran and gave its ajr to my deceased father or her deceased mother . I feel so guilty now and I will ask her forgiveness Inshaallah! Indeed you have added so much to my knowledge! May Rabul Alameen reward you and your family for this!

@imu70 We know that our religion is based on the truth because for Jesus (peace and blessing of Allah up on him) one of the mighty of messenger of Allah. If islam wasn't true by the arrogance of human being our Prophet (peace and blessing of Allah up on him) would have rejected Jesus like Jews did. Don't be arrogant by treating our religion of false one. May Allah guide you to the truth.

What a lecture!.. I wonder how much time and effort must have gone into producing such a profound in depth analysis of the positions of different scholars. Appreciate your efforts. Jazakallahu khairan!

Perhaps this lecture is also one of the actions that may benefit many of the deceased through their loved ones gifting them :-) In Shaa Allah.

In my village people who passed away on Friday’s were mentionned as pious and it’s a good thing to pass away on a Friday..I used to think that was weird. But now I have understood thanks to Sheikh Yasir Qadhi that this actually seems to be right and this person who passes away on a Friday is most likely going to avoid the Azab of Kabr .

Jazakallah for yet another educational talk. I immensely respect yq and for the first time ever I felt that the evidence for the conclusion - reading Quran for eesaal e sawab - was not strong. This has already opened the doors for 40th day quran reading, annual gathering on the date of death of a person and many others. Why stop at this then. A bad Muslim who is rich and dies, can get eesaal sawab if the heirs start feeding the poor and ask them to do salah and gift it to the deceased. This concept cannot then stop here and can be extrapolated to a number of other things which would not seem logical, in fact would seem unfair. It is very natural to read Quran at the time of death and very likely that people have done it for over a thousand years (as mentioned in this talk), but from what has been presented it doesn’t seem that the sawab was being gifted to the dead. It probably was being read for one’s own connection to Allah s.w. The last few minutes of the talk are the key. He is not encouraging the Quran recitation gathering on annual death day; but at the same time he is asking us to be tolerant if people do this.

If gifting the reward/good deed to others especially dead is allowed then gifting sin/bad deed should also be allowed. No muslim will agree with this hence no good deed/reward can be gifted to others except charity of a child as mentioned in the hadith because child is parents earning as mentioned in the hadith.
