Part 57: Fading Fire 1 day before the Fall of Stormguard Two left. Caldus cursed the tediousness of his task. Only two foes left in the entire city. And for some reason he couldn't catch them. Of Avriol, this was expected. The 1st Lord-Captain was always going to be a problem, but Caldus had never thought much of Deion. A lieutenant when he had left, nothing had indicated that Deion would ever rise any higher. Had there not been a death toll on 3rd company, Caldus had been quite sure the man would never have made it to the rank of Lord-Captain. He'd been somewhat amused to be proven wrong at first, but that amusement had made place for pure disgust and hate for the two men that kept eluding him. His thoughts lingered on those feelings, weighing them, revelling in them. Even the negatives felt refreshing after going so long without emotions. He'd lingered so long, in fact, that he almost missed it. Deion saw his chance. Under the cover of darkness, few foes would ever find a Blade if he did not want to be found, and Deion was still of the blood of the old Mistravens. Stealth was in his very blood as a result, and he used it. He slipped past unseen, evading sentries and patrols, until his target was in sight. It was a long shot. He'd seen Verillion fail at the task, and the Librarian was by far the better fighter than him, he wasn't ashamed to admit that. But Deion had nothing to lose. Caldus dodged the first strike, feeling the heat of Deion's axe on the exposed skin of his face. A quick motion saw him simultaneously parry the next blow and put on his helmet. Another twist of his body saw him on the offense, trading blows with his foe. Caldus smiled. "You've gotten better at this." Deion did not answer. Instead his off hand shot forward, burying a knife in Caldus' shoulder. The champion just laughed and brought his sword up in an arc, severing the hand that held the knife. He'd expected Deion to recoil at that, but found himself painfully wrong when the handle of the Lord-Captain's axe shot forward and slammed into the champion's helmet so hard that the piece of armour cracked. Caldus' face contorted in a snarl. That blow should never have landed. The gap in their skill was-... While his mind had that outburst, the axe came down again. Caldus sidestepped and struck. His sword buried itself in Deion's chest, but to Caldus' surprise, the Lord-Captain did not die. Deion's eyes spat fire at his former brother as the stump of his left arm wrapped around the sword, locking it in place between the armour plates. They were too close for the Lord-Captain to use the blade of his axe, gut the haft and armoured fist that held it came up in a swift motion and hammered Caldus' face over and over again. It became hard for the champion to see through the blood, but he felt bone give in and heard it crack. His own off hand came up and pushed the other Astartes away, though he had to let go of his sword to create distance. His knife and pistol leapt to his hands and he fired a few shots before the axe swatted the firearm aside. It was enough though. Caldus saw an opening and took it, stabbing forward and piercing Deion's neck with his knife. For a moment, Deion stared at him, hatred in his eyes, and Caldus was afraid the Lord-Captain would keep going. Then a trickle of blood left the corner of his mouth. A wet gurgle sounded in an effort to form words, but instead, the Lord-Captain fell. No pained scream, no final words. Just that look of hatred and defiance. As the sun rose on the final day of the battle, Avriol saw his brother fall. That was when he sent a signal to bunkers hidden deep beneath the city. Machines that had been dormant for all this time sprang to life, preparing for their final task. At the same time, Avriol stepped forward to face his own final task. Caldus couldn't help but smile. It had been a while since he had come that close to dying. As he took up his sword again, he looked down at the dead body. "Is this the best the Blades of the Last Light have to offer?" "No. Deion is brave, but his skill can not keep up with his courage. If it is the best you seek, try me." Avriol had not bothered to sneak past like Deion had done. In his wake he left the broken bodies of dozens of Astartes and hundreds of their servants. Each had tried to stop him, none had succeeded. But Caldus could see at a glance that they had wounded him. But even tired and bleeding, the 1st Lord-Captain was an imposing figure as he stood there, sword raised in a challenge. Caldus couldn't help but feel excited when he raised his own weapon to accept the challenge. As the morning sun reflected off both weapons, Stormguard's final day began.

First angels can take any form, again your art and music has mezmorised me again, floods of memories with this photo and music. First who is she ? Could it be know ones knows not even her maybe. But Hattie's is a SHE, Gia is thought to be a SHE and Jone Of Arch is a SHE. And one guy could even called her Rath Girl....lol ! Reference to a kind of harvester's in a movie series Stargate SG1 (A real future reference within two galaxies being built) Also it could look like a girl that took her judgement day sooner then later ( with some help from some friends and a back deal they didn't know about to get her out of the inner darkness ) so she doesn't go to Hell fire, while on Earth (A planet To be judged). My daughter is going to be the new Gia over Earth, because everyone else failed the tests. I will be not fare away on the new fourth Kingdom on Earth (Heaven) The Kingdom of Serinity ( A boot camp of new angels, sort of like the latest Wonder Woman movie. Also did you know that I built Serinity in Switzerland and started that new governing system, it is the same governing system used in the highest of high heavens.....so when they say heaven sets down on Earth, you can bet that location will be protected by a shield.
