I'll never understand how anyone could dislike pineapple... it's the PERFECT pizza topping. And it's fantastic grilled and put on a burger with a little teriyaki or bbq sauce... My grandmother cooked for a living and I'm so glad she started teaching my siblings and I how to cook when we were in elementary school. I've seen so many people that don't even know how to properly use or hold a knife. My mom used to enjoy having me around on weekends to help her in the kitchen on Saturdays. That was when she'd prepare or start preparing Sunday dinner. For most of what I did I used a chef knife and it'd take her at least 4 times as long to do what took me a few minutes. I always chopped up more vegetables than I knew she would need and froze what she didn't use in Zipp Lock bags. Then all she had to do next time she cooked was pull what she needed out and throw it in the pan/pot. I could have used the food processor but they weren't invented when I learned.

As a Southeast Asian, we first cut the leaves (top part) leaving the stem so we can hold it easily to peel. Thinly peel the skin with a knife, leaving dots on it and cut the dots in spiral shape (like the 'core' cutting tool) thinly, then slice it from the bottom to the top and chop the top too. Usually we cut the slices into four and eat it that way. Or after peeling, cut the stem, cut the pineapple in four parts (from the top to bottom) and slice the triangle shaped pineapple

In Vietnam, we don't even cut them into rings. To make sure that we keep as much flesh as possible, we cut the peel quite thinly and then carve out the eyes in a diagonal pattern down the pineapple. That can take a bit of time but it makes the pineapple look pretty :). Then we slice it into slices down the middle (through the core) and just slice the core out after.
