Here's another of the Epicurus Core Concept videos -- this one centered on two objects of fear that Epicurus considered to be widespread but irrational -- the gods and death

The exhale of relief at the end of the video ! Looks like most of your lectures are one take, no jump cuts or unnecessary editing for witch you get extra points of admiration. Great series Thank you

+stefan klisarov You're welcome! And, yes, I try to do as few takes as possible - just like in a classroom, where you barely get your one take

Greetings Dr Sadler. I just wanted to thank for you for the effort you put into uploading all these short videos and series despite your busy schedule. Your videos on Epicurus and the Stoics have really inspired me to contemplate on their works and find out what they have to offer to me on a personal level. Epicurus's Letter to Menoeceus and Epictetus's Enchiridion have provided me with invaluable peace and insight.If anything, I really hope you do a full length video on Marcus Aurelius's Meditations. Again, thanks so much!

Jin Wee Lee You're very welcome. I'll eventually do more on Marcus Aurelius -- probably during this year's Stoic week, coming up in November

Gregory, thank you so much. Do you by chance have a lecture of Thomas Aquinas on Death?
@GregoryBSadler9 жыл бұрын
That's easily answered by going to my channel and looking or by doing a search

Gregory B. Sadler I figured after I asked, thank you for the response.

Dear Professor Sadler, I am about to start watching all your Epicurus videos. In which order should I watch them? Thanks!
@GregoryBSadler9 жыл бұрын
mindbringer I don't think one needs to watch them in any set order. What is important is that one does read the texts along with watching the videos

Epicurus never had to worry about immortality on KZbin. Immortality is clearly a bigger problem than death for us and Epicurus.
@GregoryBSadler9 жыл бұрын
Retrogamer71 Well. . . immortality of a sort, I suppose. I'm not sure the imagined immorality of my image, for example, is really immortality of me in any important respect

@@GregoryBSadler I meant that I thought your comment 'look at what they did with the lawn' was super funny. My captions were just an exaggerating of showing how funny I thought it was, but clearly that didn't came across. Oh well, can't win them all.

Yeah, when I've produced about 1700 videos so far, and you're remarking on one from at least 5 years ago, it's unlikely I'm going to remember any of the remarks I'd made in the video

Anger defined as a weakness or imperfection is interesting. If the Gods are "godlike" then they wouldn't have human imperfections like anger, or possibly even emotions like jealousy, envy, etc. And if they did then they wouldn't be Gods in the first place. Seems logical. I LOLed at the end of the video, the idea of Epicurus looking up from Hades and complaining about what they did to his lawn is funny stuff.
