Epidemius Faction Guide | Total War Warhammer 3

Epidemius marks the return of FreeLC lords to Warhammer 3 DLCs. He’s joining the newly reworked Nurlge and has a strong focus on spreading as many plagues as he can to as many factions as he can and reaping plenty of rewards from Papa Nurgle along the way. But how exactly do you use him to get the most out of his mechanics, let’s take a look and find out.

I like the new approach to plagues. Where previously it was legit just smelling each other's farts and trying to make more potent diseases. That is not how Grandpa Nurgles works, he need you out there licking door nobs and spreading his gifts. Also finger crossed the other chaos factions get this treatment too. Kabunda would make sense.

Also i LOVE plaguebearers. Imo the only cool unit nurgle has really in fantasy warhammer. So i enjoy the extra focus on them. And i think "getting stronger the more plagues are around" feels natural.

Yea originally CA scrapped the FLC lords stuff, so we got none with the Chorfs and the SoC DLCs: only free LHs. Now after the disaster of SoC they changed their mind

He's basicaly a Nurgle version of Grombrindal, where his faction's mechanic is there mainly to give bonuses to Epidimius and his army. But it can still work. Not fan of his starting position tho...

hm. epidemius looks to be a just straight up better kugath. his focus on plageu bearers is great, since those are allready strong units, and he just has to spam some random plagues to get insane buffs. why should we play kugath now?

Kugath’s massive buffs to nurglings does give him one of the earliest doom stacks in the game besides Ghorst, and he is probably better in combat than epidemius. You are right tho, epidemius does seem generally better.

@@johnosburn6814 well, epidemius gives massive buffs to plageubearers, which are way better than nurglings, and he is also a strong fighter. kugath just seems to get shafted here

in general Ku'gath's faction seems to focus more on Nurglings for everyone while Epidemius's factions seem to focus much more on just his own personal army. also, in the plague rework Ku'gath's faction is getting some special stuff where he'll get much more blessed traits than Epidemius or Tamurkhan. so on the whole it's a matter of different playstyles. Ku'gath buffs Nurglings and focuses on having the best plagues you could possibly make, Epidemius buffs Plaguebearers and focuses on spreading plagues to as many factions as possible in order to get personal buffs for his own personal army (seriously, the only buff from his tally that isn't just for Epidemius himself is research rate, none of his other armies are benefitting from it at all). on the whole, power wise it seems like a choice between whether you just personally prefer Plaguebearers or Nurglings. Epidemius's buffs seem like they'd be harder to maintain but they are probably a bit stronger than Ku'gath's. also, just comparing the characters themselves, Ku'gath is more vulnerable to missile fire due to his larger size, but he's got the advantage of being both a spellcaster and an artillery piece. he's also got more HP, leadership, melee defence, and weapon strength (Ku'gath's armour piercing weapon damage alone is almost enough to reach Epidemius's total). Epidemius does win for armour and charge bonus though, and they tie for melee attack and speed. Epidemius is definitely the cheap passive buff Lord (his lack of spellcasting really makes him suffer since there will probably be times where you'll either need to bring an extra hero or just prefer a Herald just so that you can do some spellcasting) to compare to Ku'gath being a very expensive Lord that can do basically everything pretty well.
