this is by far the best demo of this guitar, and it's because it's not just clean jazz.. mind you, I like jazz, but I'm looking for those delicious hollow body distorted tones! most people seems to be afraid of feedback, I just love it! I wish we could hear more chording + musical feedback work out there!

If I had to choose out of my several guitars, this would be the one. I have played Gibsons, Taylors and Ovations. I am a strummer. The fact that I can play it without plugging it in, is just great. So easy to play.

Agreed. I actually went to the shop to look at a Gretsch on Black Friday, and heard someone playing, and the tone was super intriguing. I went around the corner, and he was playing one of these. I told him he should take the guitar home, and that he didn't, that I might. I sat down and played it, and I was super intrigued by the tone. ..then I realized I had the amp volume on *zero*. I had been getting off on the *acoustic* tone of it, and didn't even realize! I turned the amp up, and the electric tone was even better. I really liked having the feedback of the acoustic sound as well, it felt super natural to be as a primarily acoustic player. So now it's mine!

These are reissued youngster...Read your Epiphone history...Epiphone made some of the finest acoustics and arch tops prior to the Gibson takeover. The Gibson company forced Epiphone production to be done in overseas markets while Gibson continued to produce High Dollar American made instruments. When I was your age, I also thought of Epiphone as a cheap form of Gibson. I have come to realize that Epiphone still maintained its heart and as fate would have it, Gibson has gone through financial hardships of its own recently. I’ve seen Epiphone quality control improve to perhaps original glory while still not out pricing the young player’s grasp. I’m so happy that Epiphone was able to maintain and thrive. I own several Epiphones now and I find myself gravitating to their originals instead of the Gibson design copies. This Century 1966 is a beast. Perfect design and unique sound. Love em!

Ayden Jacobs I actually bought the Grote Jazz. Sounds just as good and has a tunomatic bridge plus only half the price at $199.00. I just wish it was red like yours. I did replace the cheap Chinese tuners with Sperzal locking tuners. It scratches my itch for a dirty hollow P90.

I saw your review and I was really impressed ! I been looking for a p 90 guitar for awhile.. and to be fair a bonus that it was a hollow body I once owed an es 125 and loved it . Here’s the bad news a local guitar center had one and I was over joyed ! Upon first impression .. I was not impressed with the satin finish .. I never once read or was told it was a low luster finish of that nature.. when feeling it my hands the strings where very high off fret board and the gauge of strings felt like 52’s it was like playing barb wire on a branch of a tree....😞😞😞 I am sorry to say yet another blunder for the Gibson company and as well as guitar center for not checking this out and doing the proper stuff to get it sale ready !! In that price range there are many examples of guitars these days that are shipped close if not spot on stage ready! Why in hell doesnt epi/ Gibson get this message !!!! I am glad you have a nice one !! Sounds great ! I really am offended that if I bought that I would have to go to my tech and start with the nut and do a total go thru !! Ugh !! My two cents !!

Thank you! And for the EQ on the amp, because the guitar is a hollow body and the one pickup is in the 'neck' position, I roll off a lot of the bottom end and bring up the mids and high end quite a bit just to even it out a little. Then it's just playing with the amount of gain and maybe some pedals you have for some colour!

What do you mean about wound G string? Doesn't it take normal G string?
@letmeooze6 жыл бұрын
jimi jam74 no. The bridge doesn't come with individual adjustable saddles and is carved to accommodate a wound G. A non wound G will not only have intonation problems with this current bridge, but it may be too loose for this guitar.

Young man, ur funny. "I think I'll start out with some clean tones." Hint : That wasn't clean, and it wasn't to my ear, anything to write home about. Let me help. Look for an old Sundown amp head designed by Dennis Kager of Ampeg fame. To get smokin' distortion, u have to start with a great clean tone. Sundown amps have discreet channel circuitry and a biasing circuit that allows for manual adjustment between 100 and 15 watts. This gives an almost infinite adjustment of clean and distortion. Add a pignose for a preamp run off an AB box. For cabinets try an open back 12" Celestion and 1 close back 12" Celestion, get them in hard wood like a birch, and u will really have something. Guitar players like Alan Holdsworth and James Burton play Sundowns. This shit is a little sophisticated for u I think, but a 100 watt Marshall for a P90 acoustic defeats the entire design of the guitar. U might as well play an ESP through a Crate. I believe James Bay introduced u to this guitar and electric hollow bodies in general, so go a step further and understand why. By the way, the setup I just gave u is more versatile than what he plays. The pignose pre is what Kieth use to do with a Fender champ. Cooler than any pedal. If u added one, try a tube screamer. Get a good reverb and a good delay, an AB box and a good volume pedal. This allows u to vary ur distortion and dynamics as u play, i.e. sing or perform the song. This is a setup that would put any thin line acoustic playing artist in total control, with a sound totally unique. Easy to transport too. The most important thing any performing artist has to learn, is that the sound and song has to fit the singing voice and image of the artist. This is what James Bay figured out, it's why he also tunes a step down to D because he wants open chords in the key that works for his voice, Bb. Just listen to the dynamics he plays with. There a reason for him to have three amps for a larger room . I hope this helps u.

Lol, james bay has admitted to recording with a humble blues JR. It's not the gear that makes the music.
