epiphone lp 100 korea is my first guitar, got it hand down from my dad. he bought it in 98 when he was living in japan. i rewired and changed the pickup to 57 classic gibson humbucker and refret the board with hosco stainless steel. it’s really fun to play and have better quality than other brands for the same price.

@@BigJakeMusic indeed it was, I'm not a huge fan of the " aged" or banged up look, however, being a woodwork, not a luthier though, I have some really nice Cherry burl and some pretty crazy flamed maple boards, I'm half tempted in passing the body throw the plainer and taking off the plain maple that is already there, and refitting a new top with one of those two choices and adding bindings. still just a plan in my head though hahaha BTW thanks for making your Review.

Hey big Jake, i have some great news for you! They do in fact come the full size pots. However with excessive use can wear out quic and most times the taper of the tone and volume knobs isn't very precise and in turn giving you very limited adjustability. Im not sure if those are the original Epiphone pots or not but to be sure i would replace them with some quality Gibson pots wired the old Gibson way with some upgraded pickups. The ceramics are ok but alnico5's are way better especially when they are properly wax potted. Good video man and like you said no one really goes in depth on this model and im surprised because it's basically as close to a standard as you can get. "Minus the set neck" which honestly is more preference than anything else. I would live to see a video of upgrades if you haven't done one already.

I have a lefty LP100, bought it in late 2001 online from Sweetwater or whatever it was, had it shipped over. The last eight years I've had it sitting there stored, I just took it out again and dropped it off for a full setup. I always found it a decent, playable guitar, it sounds somewhat dark or muddy at times, though. Depends what you run it through. These days i have better amps here etc. and FX, so I"m hoping the LP100 will sound better now. My main guitars are a newer Squier Tele. and a 12-string Ac. Electric. So mine's pretty "vintage" sort of! I revived it because I like to play Stooges and metal and punk on the LP. Telecaster too, but the LP is better even, for that.

Never owned an LP style guitar until this one, bought without trying just cause it was super cheap and in my experience, a good setup can mitigate a lot (and I live in NYC, where there are a lot of great luthiers and shops.) Bottom line, it was a little janky from the box as in the pickguard wasn't screwed on right, jack had no washer (!) but I didn't really care. Took it to a local shop for a setup, dude looked inside and was like, hahaha no way I'm letting this thing leave here with this jack and switch, he threw them in for very cheap and when I came back a few hrs. later, he was like, 'Dude, I'm surprised, see what you think.' And I'll be damned, this thing GROWLS, it's mean, I think the combo of the scale length and the bolt-on neck AND the high output ceramics give it a real cool sound kinda similar to a really rockin' TV Yellow LP jr, and it can also do nice rock n' roll and everything in between (pickup weakness is the neck/tone down isn't quite as stereotypically les paulish) but I really like this guitar, I honestly do, and it's so cheap. The tech was playing it at the bench and was like, damn this thing is pretty awesome for what you paid. Takeaway it's rad, get it, and if you don't setup a guitar when you buy it (as I did for my teens and early twenties) you're just making life hard.

hello! I'm a beginner and I just bought an LP100, what low budget amplifier do you recommend? Basically I want to practice at home
@BigJakeMusic
@BigJakeMusic 2 жыл бұрын
That's a fantastic question. If you just want to practice at home and don't know what you want yet, get a cheap, used Fender Mustang I. They can be found on GuitarCenter.com for less than 70ish dollars and come with a ton of amp models and effects. They don’t make them anymore, and the newer version(the Mustang LT25) is a bit confusing to operate for beginners. It would be a great starter amp and you can learn what you like, so when you upgrade down the road you'll know exactly what to go for. The controls aren’t exactly straightforward, but with some fiddling and research you can get some great sounds out of it. If you don’t want digital modeling and want something straight to the point and simple to use, old Peavey amps are amazing for your purposes-the Rage 158 and Blazer come to mind. They are small and perfect for practicing at home. The older ones are better and are no longer made, but they can be found regularly for less than 50 dollars. Lastly, if you wanna bring out the big guns, go for the Peavey Bandit. It’s very heavy, and VERY loud, but it’s unbreakable and one of the best non-tube amps ever made. If you know you’ll stick with it long term it could be a fantastic investment. I can also recommend the Fender Frontman 65R or 212R. They aren’t as good as the Bandit, but they would be great amps too that are on the larger, louder side of the spectrum. Each of those would run less than 300(200 if you look for a bit) dollars. Like the others, they are no longer made, so you’d have to find them used. They do make new Bandits, but they are made in China and aren’t as good as the older ones..they also cost 500 dollars new, and that just ain’t worth it when you can get a better amp for half that on the used market. Hopefully that helps :)

hi back, which is better a 1998 LP100 made in Korea or a 2012 LP100 made in Indonesia?
@BigJakeMusic
@BigJakeMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Very hard to say without playing each of them. Korea’s quality control was all over the place in the 90s. Some were incredible and others were absolutely horrific. The later Indonesian model you mentioned would probably be my choice if I had to pick without playing them. By then, Gibson had much better quality control and consistency in the Epiphone line. It’s a gamble, so if you feel like playing the lottery, go for the Korean one. If you wanna play it safe and get something that will at least be decent, go for the Indonesian. If they are different colors, pick the color you like best and disregard the place of manufacture. That could help with a split decision :P
