I have this exact guitar - same color even. So funny that you picked the exact same strap I did for this guitar lol. It goes well with it.

Hey, Ben. I enjoyed your review and just became a subscriber. I've been playing an Epi Modern for about a year now, and I was caught off guard with your perception of a slightly reduced quality "feel" to the guitar. My experience has been quite to the contrary. I was expecting a less-than-quality feel, similar to what we've grown accustomed to in the Epiphone/Squier/What-have-you range of instruments. But... when I put my '21 Graphite up against both the other Epiphones currently available and all but the highest-end Gibson Les Pauls, it wasn't even close. Sure the Gibsons had some superficial advantages, and I had the equivalent of 3000 USD to spend - but there was no way I was going to leave without that guitar. The chief selling point in my estimation? The Steinway-like, seemingly hand-crafted quality to the woodworking of the guitar. The thing is a piece of art, brother. On mine, even the binding lines up perfectly. Grab a hold of that neck, then grab, say, a 2018 Gibson Les Paul Classic/Studio/Faded. The neck and fretboard are simply better formed and though the binding does not cover the fret ends, the Epi is still both smoother and more precise in its construction. I wouldn't say most of this about any other model, but this is as transparent and expressive a guitar as I've ever owned. The build quality and versatility of this guitar puts it in a category of its own, even when compared to Gibson's Modern. While there are vintage Gibsons (a '59 comes to mind) that I might take over this guitar, that would be about it. Anyway, that's my "two cents" worth. I am still amazed by the back of this guitar. It is drop-dead gorgeous. And even if I live another 20 years (when 10 is unlikely), I will never outplay this guitar. And I've been playing since 1965, which by anyone's measure, equates to a while.

I just bought one of those. Haven’t even got it yet. I did buy the SG Modern about 6 months ago. Love it. The factory set up was kind of crap. I took it to my local pro shop and it sounds like a high end Gibson now. I cant wait to get my Les in. I’ll probably restring it and do want I know about set up on it sooner than later. I play a lot of metal stuff myself. My amp rig is a Sovtek MiG thirty(circa 1983) with a 1 /12 Basson cab. My effects are driven from a line 6 pod go. I really love that SG MODERN. Great review! You seem like a couch riffer like me. For regular dudes like us the price point for what you get on these riff sticks is amazing. But I do agree, the frets could use a little more love. But… a pro shop or buying a fret polishing buffer with a couple different weights of Steele wool will do the trick. Can’t wait to rip that Paul!!!

Thanks for the great review! It appears your model has different knobs than what I have on mine, and still showing on Epiphone's website. But maybe you mentioned this and I did not catch it. Also, my pots are very responsive, but regardless you sure showed how well this plays. Rock on!

No matter what people are saying about Epiphone's manufacturer pickups, they're junk. No lie. If you buy these $699 Epiphone LP, I recommend swapping them to a nice pickup set (i.e., Gibson's 57 Classic, Buster Pro, 489R, or Seymour Duncan, etc.). Why do I say that? Well, if you had always used real Gibson pickups, you'll probably know, these Epiphone pickups are horrible. The last time I bought a Epiphone LP(around $699), they sound so bad that I had no choice but to buy a real pickup. Lol. However, if you've always used Epiphone pickups, you'll probably think it's "great." Lol. Just FYI - for those are shopping for Epiphone LPs.
@transmundanemusic Жыл бұрын
So, because you had one experience you think that translates to all? I own a Gibson Standard 60's, and I can tell you the pickups in three 2020 Epiphones I've used/owned were very good, and almost comparable to the Burstbuckers. Sounds like you were using an old version. They've since been upgraded, so you should be aware of that before you tell people that all Epi pickups are trash. Some people will like them, some people won't, but it will boil down to preference rather than the pickups simply being bad.
@heut4384 Жыл бұрын
@transmundanemusic no, I'm only telling the truth. I've been playing more than the last 40 years, my friend. I do know, ALL manufacturers use cheap/junk pickups. When was the last time PRS used quality pickups for only $700? Lol. They don't. When was the last time Fender used good pickups for $699? You won't see it. Which is the same thing for Epiphone, my friend. Any good guitarists would know between a $699 vs. $2,000. I'm only telling the truth. Sorry, buddy. I'm not going to tell people that these junk stock pickups are "great" when they're not. I'm glad you're fine with it, my friend. Any good guitarists will swap them before they record or gigging.
@transmundanemusic Жыл бұрын
@@heut4384 Saying there's a difference between a premium guitar and a mass produced import guitar is one thing. Claiming all stock pickups on anything under a 2K guitar are trash, is nothing short of ignorant. For someone who has been playing as long as you, you should really know better. Not to mention how pompous and arrogant it is to claim that any good guitarist will swap the pickups. Did you even watch the video? I know my way around a fretboard, and I am perfectly happy w these pickups. The video showcases my ability to play as well as the pickup capabilities. Time to get off your high horse.
