Epiphone is not japanese at all presently - it's made in China and Indonesia (but made in Japan during the seventies, and some rare japanese models later, not now).

Technically they still make certain Casino Elitist & signature models in Japan, but the rest of the most recent Elitist Japanese production models were only made from '02-'08. Epiphone were originally a rival to Gibson before being bought by them in the late 50s, since the 70s they've operated more as a more budget friendly imnport alternatives to Gibson's range, with exceptions made for some of their original designs like the Casino & Coronet from before then. This video is promotion from the Epiphone Japan YT channel, which is an offshoot of Gibson Japan TV (who this collective/project have also done a K-On cover for) run by the Japanese distributor for the two brands.

I think most Japanese guitarists in their 20s and 30s will say that the first guitar they bought was a Fender Japan, Epiphone, or Yamaha.
