Back in those days, you were required to know the English translation to Latin or else you didn't serve Mass. These days the server just knows the bare necessities.

Thank you for keeping the comments' section open. I learn a lot from it. I wish I could live in this parish. The MC and altar servants were so impressive and also the choir. The pre-55 Mass lifts my soul more so than the '62 Mass which seems so stripped back in comparison... which I''m just beginning to realise. God bless you all.

Whenever the bishop celebrates pontifically, the Blessed Sacrament is reposed. Something to do with the bishop being Christ in the midst of the sanctuary...

Out of respect for the blessed sacrament, it is moved to a side altar lest the bishop sit with his back toward it.

@@st.gertrudethegreatlive4439 - you're addressing the rubrics related to the episcopal consecration and to the rites of ordination, confirmation etc... when the faldstool is at the centre... but what then is the reason for a Solemn Pontifical Mass? There's no sitting at the centre then...

@@CJCappella True, but even in this case the bishop sits with his back toward the Blessed sacrament. Now, I have not studied the issue and I would encourage others who are interested in a deeper explanation to do so. The explanation I gave is the only one I recall and it seems sufficient.

@@DominicusMagnus Ransom Coates is right. Brazilian sedevacantist Fr. Rodrigo da Silva, formerly with the SSPX-Resistance of Williamson, was consecrated a bishop by Daniel Dolan. Daniel Dolan is a Thục-line "bishop". So the lineage is corrupted. Easy.

The bishops constitute the hierarchy of the Church. To cut oneself off from them, as the sedevacantists do, has already been condemned by Leo XII and Leo XIII. These popes were targeting a group whose members denied the legitimacy of Pope Pius VII: like the sedevacantists. Leo XII, Pastoris Aeterni: “Your Little Church cannot therefore in any way belong to the Catholic Church. By the very admission of your masters, or rather of those who deceive you, there are no longer any French bishops who support and defend the party you follow. Moreover, all the bishops of the Catholic Universe, to whom they themselves have appealed, and to whom they have addressed their schismatic claims in print, are recognized as approving the conventions of Pius VII and the acts which followed, and the whole Catholic Church is now entirely favorable to them.” Leo XIII, Eximia nos laetitia: “Absolutely no bishop considers them and governs them as his sheep. From this they must conclude with certainty and evidence that they are defectors from the fold of Christ. Now, just as the Little Church had no bishop who recognized them, so the sedevacantists had no bishop who recognized them, all of whom recognized the Council in 1964 and 1965.

In fact, the first bishop to recognize sedevacantism was Bishop Thuc, and only in May 1981. Prior to that, Bishop Thuc recognized Pope John Paul II, celebrated according to the new rite, and even signed the documents of the Council (as did all the other so-called "traditionalist" bishops). Their signatures can be found in the Acts of the Council, available on the Internet. Bishop Thuc was a very controversial bishop: in the 1970s, while recognizing the legitimacy of Pope Paul VI, he consecrated nearly a dozen bishops, all of them unfit for the episcopate. Several of them were even from bloodlines explicitly condemned by Popes Pius IX and Pius XII (heretical bloodlines). All the consecrations had taken place without papal authorization. According to a law of Pius XII, if a bishop consecrates another bishop without the authorization of a pope, both bishops are excommunicated, a fortiori if the consecration is made by or over an excommunicate. Thus, when Bishop Thuc consecrated the sedevacantist bishops without the consent of any pope, he was already excommunicated by his past consecrations, and thus the sedevacantist consecrations were also illegitimate. This is not all, for when you look at the organizational chart of the sedevacantist bishops, you will see that they consecrated a multitude of bishops who rejected each other, and that they had very strong ties to lineages related to the condemned heretics. Moreover, even the present sedevacantist bishops are in error, since some of them usurp a jurisdiction they do not possess, while others reject the liturgical reforms made by Pope Pius XII, which they nevertheless consider legitimate. Z braku innych biskupów też tak można. Ale oni nie przekazują święceń biskupich, bo nie są biskupami. Tylko asyatują za miast tych 2 brakujących. A wtym przypadku sakrament przekazuję główny konsekrator.
