What would be interesting is to consider basketball like a chess game. Potentially taking lower value plays in order to cause a reaction from the opponent leading to opening up of higher value plays later on. Like can they track that? Game flow and how to dismantle opponents

Playing professional basketball should be A pre- requisite to being on an “Analytics Team” Some thing I beg these analysts to study is how come guys like Jordan, Kobe, & Carmelo are the best scorers ever. How come taking contested mid-range shots are preferred instead of these spot up 3’s 🤔 I know the answer… but I bet the “Analytics Team” doesn’t 😂😂

@@brentduanefoster not enough characters allowed and time to sit here and fully explain. What I will say, is there’s A reason A layup is most accurate off of the backboard, but players rarely use the backboard from 3. Making shots is A game of trajectory & angles. How that relates to specific player abilities and their defensive matchups in play by play scenarios is extremely unique and situational. No analytics can account for years of practice and intuition. Great players use areas of the floor to score because that then sets up A reaction from the defense in which they counter. If I have my mind set to believe 3s and layups are most efficient due to league averages, that negates A huge part of what makes great scorers what they are and also makes them far more predictable.
