Great first episode! Might be worth mentioning live bait, even though you don't generally use. Sometimes for us average fisherman, crappie prefer live bait over artificial at times.

Matt, thanks. I can only say the Lord brought me to this channel. What I've just learned in this episode has just given me both insight and confidence when I get back on the water to include some things I need to change in my tackle box. Can't wait to watch the next episode and your live video. Hopefully I can catch your next live and be on the call. mj

Good job, thank you. Good points you mentioned. I never heard you talk about hook types though. I know lots of folks use the J bend type hooks, I prefer the sickle hooks. Why, well I think the sickle hook provides me a better hookup ratio, where as the hook point is always higher than the jig head and bait and the wider bend fits most all rubber baits. I myself tie my own jigs to and I think tied jigs gives you hand up sometimes, just sometimes.
@WiredforCrappie Жыл бұрын
I prefer the J bend. I don’t like sickle hooks because they have a past 90 degree bend which creates a week spot. Just my preference

I have bass fished all of my long life but not crappie fished. I am at the beginning of learning how to do this. This series will be invaluable for me. So, regarding the line, are you attaching the mono leader to the braid? Do you add backing to your reel before spooling the braid? Tnanks.
@WiredforCrappie2 жыл бұрын
I back with viscious 4 lb mono. I only leader in tournaments

Is it that you never use a minnow. I like to be ready for either or. I’ve fished for 63 years. Been thru all phases. Have been dedicated crappie now for couple years. Thx for advice about buoy markers.
@WiredforCrappie2 жыл бұрын
Randy, I do use minnows. Mostly in the middle of summer. My only downfall to minnows is there a one fish per minnow deal! Jigs I can catch 20 30 even 40 on a BoneHead Tackle jig before re baiting.
@drumking3882 жыл бұрын
I do not prefer to throw my buoys directly over the brushpile. I like to throw it 10-15 feet off the brushpile because many times crappie after hookup will run around the buoy line and hang it up.

Good advice drum king
