I live near Botley in Hampshire uk. I eagerly await the arrival of the swifts each year and get impense pleasure watching their spectacular airial displays. There have bern up to a dozen pairs sweeping between the houses on their search for food. The sound as they career past makes the whole experience even better. This year I didn't see the first swifts till 10th may. Within a week or so there were only 3 pairs. Today, 29th may, they are gone. I find this deeply disturbing, and I miss their presence. We too have massive building works carrying on in the area. I fear they may be yet another victim of man's stomping around the planet.

We can all do what we can to help by putting up the swift boxes, giving them space but you are right Rob, the human impact on the changing climate is a worry and doesn't help these amazing birds at all. We have to hope they are resilient enough to adapt to these worrying times. Thanks for your comment.

This is brilliant and so insightful. I love it when Edward says: “our role on this planet cannot just to be kill, kill, kill!” Agree!!
