Thanks for taking the time to watch the episode Craig. Maggie, Sarah and I are glad that you enjoyed it. Love the name Ducky! Many many people laughed at me for hanging on to Maggie for so long. They called her all sorts of names including junk. You will be happy that you hung on to yours. Although this is my very first car restoration, let me know if I can help by sharing my experiences when you contemplate or actually start your own restoration.

It will be great to watch someone go through complete restoration of a 1972 MGB. I have two MGBs. This last spring I bought a 1972. Although it has a lot of rust it has all the parts, original engine, etc. except the air filter canisters. I plan to completely restore the body and perform an engine swap. The 1975 I purchased with the intention of using it for body parts. After purchasing it I've now changed my mind. It is in too good of shape to dismantle. It is an original California car with zero rust, all parts are there with good body and interior. It sat for 30 years in a garage covered. I got it started the other day after only rebuilding the carb. There are some leaks to address but other than that it runs and drives. I plan to Drive it around until I get my 72 rebuilt. So I'm excited to watch your videos and share in your progress.

Welcome aboard and both Maggie and I are glad that you find the content both enjoyable and useful. Congrats on venturing into the MG world with the ownership of both your cars! I believe that it is a worthwhile journey, but one that has many ups and downs as well as financial implications. They are such fun cars to work on and easy enough to do so. My only advice is to figure out what level of restoration you actually want to do in accordance to cost. Build a spreadsheet and actually estimate the cost of parts and labor that you will sub out. Find the right car that balances these two parameters. There are plenty of MGB's for sale that are in fantastic shape and require little work for $10-$15K. Its very easy to spend 2x that on a restoration so chose wisely. Personally, Maggie is a throwback to my past and has significant meaning warranting the additional cost.

I forgot to tell you, all my life I loved those cars & also the TR-6 , that Camaro was awesome to , I had 2- 70 SS Chevelles & I'm 2 years older than you, so I'm from your generation 😊

Maggie almost was a TR6. At the time I was drawn to those because of their 6 cylinder engine. The mechanic who came with me to look at that car as well as a few MGB's, persuaded me to buy an MGB and the rest is history. The late 60's and early 70's were a magical time when it came to cars. I always loved the look of the Chevelles, (especially with the two wide white/black racing stripes front to back) but never owned one.

Greetings from the Rockey Mountains. I ran across your You Tube channel on Maggie. That is absolutely exciting to see the history, your family desire to restore Maggie. I own a 1977 MGB. I can relate to your daughter frowning up with Maggie. I have two kids who grow up with our MGB. My son was 6 and daughter was 2. We are starting a restoration / improvement plan. I sent your video to many classic car enthusiasts, many who are MGB owns. Some of our restoration areas we plan to address are; Suspension, 4 speed transmission, aluminum Radiator, Steering, seats, some electrical, adding LEDs, fog lights, w heater stripping, and installing rear dis brakes. Going to check your next video of Maggie’s adventure to a start of a new life with the restoration. Great video. Groovy tool shop background 👍🏻😎🏎. 🚓 ⛽️. I am not an automotive mechanic, back ground is in military and law enforcement. However, my kids (18 & 22 yrs old) have developed a deep passion to learn and work on our classic cars. Keep them coming 👍🏻😉🏎. 🙏🏻✝️🇺🇸

Hello Richard and welcome aboard! Maggie and I are glad that you are enjoying the content and that it will be useful as you work through your own restoration. The MGB community is so supportive as far as helping others to keep these cars around and running. IMO the beauty of these cars is the simple elegance of the design & engineering and availability of parts so people like you and I who are not mechanics by trade can work on them. You will be creating lifetime memories with your son as you work through the restoration which is so cool. That's a great list of areas to address in the restoration which I am sure will keep you quite busy. I have a number of upcoming videos (ie the work is already done and I am editing the content) that involve the front suspension so stay tuned. If you hit the subscribe button on KZbin, you will be notified when I post them. In closing, great connecting with you and let me know how you restoration is progressing.

WOW - memories are what its all about & your video has brought them all back for me! Your walk around of Maggie is everything I found on our two MG’s after 43 years of garage storage - all the way down to the cob webs (under the cars) & yes mouse ‘nestling’ remnants under the bonnet (same place as yours). The two MG’s we have owned since new are: #1) 1970 MGB/GT (Midnight Blue); #2) 1971 MGB/Roadster (Beige). The MGB/GT three years ago went through an extensive ground up restoration - however, I did all the cosmetic work here at home. That car is all original down to the British Leyland AM Radio in the dash. The only thing now left to do were the wire wheels - so that I am working on today. So I’ll strip them and repaint them as their not chrome. The GT has turned out to be a beautiful machine & wish I could show you pictures of it as it still only has 17,000 miles on her with all parts still intact down to the 1970 emission system lines & pump. Correct engine color was applied to (Maroon color for certain parts including the valve cover with MG labels on top). The interior is all original - yes, it shows some wear but still in great shape. I did all the chrome myself with hours of polishing and buffing ‘all over’ the car (used a dual action micro buffer & pads from SPTA) to get the surface rust off the chrome or down to a level that looks pretty nice (saving me from rechroming $$). And all the chrome turned out brilliant. Plus I did just replace the rear MG ‘Octagonal’ Badge to. All parts needed were purchased via MOSS Motors in Virginia as they have everything for our B’s & get the parts to us in rapid fashion. Now the 1971 MGB/R - well, it (like Maggie did to you) is crying out to me for attention & OMG does she need attention. Sitting all those ‘decades’ (even though garaged) - took on a new life of disrepair (UGH) - tire rot and just dusty beyond belief (inside & outside). It to will have to go through a thorough restoration soon too. And your video here has made me get my butt in gear to get that project started too (thanks - I’m smiling). The MGB/R has 39,000 miles on her. And in her glory days she was a beautiful machine & my personal car as a teenager (I’m 65 now & when working on these beauties I’m 16 all over again😊). So ALOT of resto in my future on the roadster - just like what we went thru on the GT by taking down the engine to its bare block and starting back from that point to all nuts and bolts of the car. And like your work shop - here at home we’ve got a 1975 Mustang Ghia Metallic Silver Edition (V8); and a 1991 MB (Black) 500SL AMG Roadster - “ALL” with low miles and in great shape which I work on week to week doing cosmetic and detail work on. So I thank you for the time you spent on your videos and will subscribe and follow you (in my spare time that is) on Maggies journey back to glory. Love the British Racing Green color to - when done and finally polished - you’ll be so proud of her and Maggie will be to of your efforts of restoring her - by rewarding you with other individuals on the road giving you thumbs up and wanting to tell you of their stories to of owning their MG’s. I get this every time I take the GT out for a drive. I wish you well and enjoy the journey - I know I will in watching you work on her. God bless & take care - Mark

Mike......thanks for tuning in to Maggies restoration story and taking the time to pen such a great comment. Both Maggie and I loved hearing about your two MG's. They sound like such wonderful cars deeply intertwined with your life over time making them very special indeed. There are days when I feel like I have accomplished a lot on her restoration and then there are days when I feel like I have done absolutely nothing especially when I look at all of the new parts from Moss Motors that I purchased in advance of needing them due to the sales promotions that they run. Sometimes I feel like a women at a dress sale! I keep reminding myself that it is all about the journey and not the destination. Everything takes 3-4x longer given the videoing, editing and posting that goes into the YourTube channel. Thank God that I love that aspect as much as I do working on the car. I also appreciate your inspirational words to move forward in the project and am happy that the series has inspired you to continue working on your own MG's. I would love to learn more about your chrome rejuvenation process as I am sure I will put it to good use in the future. If you want to introduce your MG's to Maggie, she would love to meet them. You can email them to MaggiesMakeover72@gmail.com. God Bless You as well!

@@MaggiesMakeover72 I had a 1971 white MGB purchased new. I had it for about 3 years then one day I stopped at Red light behind a flat bed truck with support jacks on the bed and he backed up over top of the car. Took out the driver fender and windshield. After the repair the windshield leaked and they could never fix the problem. On top of that we just adopted our son so the MG had to go. (A very sad day indeed). A purchased a 1972 Vega in its place. Not the best choice I was soon to learn. :)

Oh that's terrible Larry. MG's aren't very practical cars when raising a family so I understand why you have to let it go. I do remember the Vega as a friend of mine owned one. If I remember correctly they had aluminum blocks that could be persnickety. Perhaps there's another MG in your future......never say never!

Thanks for pressing the button and watching the video as well as your kind sentiments. I was sleepless at 3AM when I saw your comment and then watched your 1st video and subscribed. So now I am connected to two crazy Aussies.....isnt the Internet ephing amazing? Love the back & forth banter and the Aussie accents play well in America. I did some touring on a Suzuki GS850 back in the day and really enjoyed seeing the footage on the bikes. I am only several months into launching my KZbin channel and learning as I go. I brought my iPhone to the garage one day to video something I was taking apart so I could figure out how to put it back together. And then I thought others might be interested in Maggies journey and it has been really fun telling her story. I am way out of my comfort zone on some of the mechanical activities, but its fun living on the edge and figuring things out. Unfortunately every thing I do on the car now takes 4x as long when you add in the video stuff. Using my iphone 14 Pro along with some LED lights and a Rode Wireless Go II microphone while editing on a MAC using iMovie. The first video took for ever, but have moved to a templated approach and finally figured out a process to balance all of the sound across the clips in the episode and mix it with the right volume on the music. I promote mainly thru MG Facebook groups. Recently started to make the episode thumbnails a bit more interesting to entice people to watch. So that's some background on my end. How about you guys? What inspired you to do the KZbin channel, what do you use to shoot/edit the videos and how do you come up with your episode scripts? Cheers!

Welcome aboard Bill. Both Maggie and I are glad that you are finding value in the series. My restoration has weeks of great progress followed by weeks where nothing happens. It's taking me a lot longer given all of the video work and time that it takes to create the episodes. While I do enjoy the KZbin work, it's a considerable drag on the project. With that said, I keep telling myself that it is a journey and not a destination. That's awesome that you are rebuilding your 76B. Maggie and I are glad that we are inspiring you to work on your B. Just stumbled on your video. I am in my mid-50's and grew up as a fan of sports cars, but British sports cars in particular. It was Peter Egan of R&T fame (and a long time acquaintance) that had me inspired to buy a buyeye and race it. As a kind in his early 20's, I quickly realized I could not afford the go-fast bits in a 948 engine and settled on an ITC Fiesta. After spending the better part of my life at road race tracks in the Midwest racing the Fiesta, I retired from that right before Covid hit. I was getting burnt out and frankly, recognized it was time for me to hang it up. Yes, I enjoy driving my e46 BMW, but lately I have been getting the itch to take on a project again. A Midget or an MG has sort of been what I've been considering, partly as my daughter goes to school in London so that opens the door potentially to some resources (though, lets face it, the US was really the market that drove sales so no shortage of parts or cars here). After spending the last couple of years refurbishing (restoring is too strong a word) a 70 year old vintage Ford 8n tractor, jumping back into a British sports car is not exactly a big leap with the similar technology. lol Sounds like you have quite a bond with the car having been willing to hang on to it and move it around for so many years. I subscribed as I am interested to see how it comes along and to see what "surprises" pop up. Best of luck with the project.

Thanks for tuning in and sending such a great comment. Seems like we have parallel lives with different timing. Racing came to me late in life at the age of 61 in the form of Lemons24 endurance racing. We ran a 1999 C280 MB for a few years and are now in a 1986 e30 BMW. Four years in to this activity and am enjoying both the driving and mechanics parts. At 65 I don't know how much longer I will be in the drivers seat and commit to each season as they come. Here is a short KZbin video I put together about our team (Whisky Chasers racing) (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnPHfmttbZKohqs). I bought a 2001 BMW e46 new and owned it for 21 years. I logged mostly highway miles as I traveled to/from customers in my software sales days. It wasn't driven in the winter and spared airport parking via a 1996 Jeep Cherokee. I loved that car and should have never sold it last year, but had to make room in the garage for a 2023 C8 Corvette. They person who I sold it to, resells to private parties and puts together videos to enhance the cars appeal. Here is the video he put together (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eonMfKCDr6yEkM0). All of my cars have/had distinct feels to them. They are like time machines in that when I drive them, they take me back to all of the associated memories I had in them. The C8 is the car of my 60's, a Dodge Challenger was the car of my 50's, the BMW was the car of my 40's and the MG was the car of my 20's. I had owned a 83 300 turbo diesel MB in my 30's which was unfortunately totaled at a red light. Being my college car, the MG has always held a place in my heart. I have kept it for as long as I have knowing that a restoration project was in my future. I am enjoying the MG project immensely, but get frustrated when things don't progress as fast as I would like them to. Being retired helps in that regard. While I have always done simple jobs like brakes, exhaust and oil changes, disassembling and reassembling a 50 year old car is a bit out of my comfort zone. And that is exactly why I am doing this......to challenge the thought that it is beyond me. Although I LOVE the video part and receive coaching from my daughter who is an actor, it seems like every job takes 4x as long. I have good says and bad days and just keep reminding myself that it is about the journey and not the destination. My videos usually lag my progress by a month or so. Working on a engine/trans/OD rebuild (sent that job out), completed a gas tank replacement video and am presently tearing down and rebuilding the whole front suspension cross member so stay tuned for more episodes. Hearing your story, I dont believe that you will be able to sit on teh sidelines without a project. If it is an MG, I would love to follow your progress and share experiences. -Steve

@@MaggiesMakeover72 Amen about the journey part. I tell people that all the time. And I would love to become a retired sales rep. Right now, I am still in the thick of it as a Building Automation Sales guy. I am not sure it is saving the world, but I am keeping "Sheila in Accounting" comfortable.... I kind assumed you were doing Lemons or ChumpCar. I can not remember which one I went to see a few years ago at RA. I will admit when I saw the carpeted Gremlin with a Beaver tail I was tempted. Lol. I have always enjoyed endurance races for all of their challenges. That was kind of when things were winding down for me, so it never got beyond that. You have to appreciate that I started with I was 21. In addition to racing, I was a worker from everything from corners to stewarding. I was even President of the Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs, in addition to some involvement in its big brother, the SCCA. There was a time when racing was a fuill time job on top of my full time job. I will never say I won't go back to it, but the way costs have gone up and up (I remember when a race was $125) it was harder and harder to do.

I am an Engineer by formal education, but went into software sales to make more money. Started out in the early 90's selling AI based engineering automation products, then configurators and then CRM. I never thought that I would make sales a career, but I loved the idea of being able to sell yourself into early retirement. While I do have regrets that I didn't save the world, I am enjoying retirement before my health becomes an issue. Sales is such a grind especially during the later years. Keep humping it and you will get there. We are kind of tired of the theme stuff in Lemons and the unpredictability of the drivers. We did our first AER race at Watkins Glen a few weeks ago and spent more time looking in our rear view mirror for cars that passed us like we were standing still. It kind of took the enjoyment out of it for me. I miss the pursuit, set up and actual passing of cars. I think that we are doing a Champs race next for comparison purposes. Good that you got your driving in while you were young and the costs were less. I need a new helmet in 2025 and that will be the time to make the decision. As Clint Eastwood recently commented on his ability to continue his career into his 90's....."its easy, I just don't let the old man in".

Mike.......thanks for taking the time to comment. Both Maggie and I enjoyed hearing from you. You hit the nail on the head. I own a 2023 C8 Corvette with 496 HP, it cant recreate the visceral sounds and smells of my 72 MGB. As far as the engine goes, I have increased the HP by about 30% through higher compression and better intake and exhaust flow. While not quite 496 HP, it should give Maggie some zip. As far as an engine sway goes, I have seen a lot of people put old Rover V8 engines in them recreating the model of MGs that had then back in the day. So that can be done. Stay tuned for more episodes and thanks for commenting.

Great video! Looking forward to seeing the build progress. I just bought a '72 roadster in Aqua and I love driving it. Luckily it's not rusty as it's an Australian delivered car!

Marcus.....Maggie and I thank you for your kind comments. She has been great in having a somewhat inexperienced mechanic poke, prod and disassemble her. Aqua is such a beautiful color and we are very happy that you are enjoying perhaps one of Maggies distant relatives. Hopefully I get to the point where I am doing the same with Maggie!

Thanks Stephan......Maggie and I appreciate your comment! Maggie does appear to be in pretty good shape and worthy of the restoration. These cars have a simplistic elegance to them making them a charm to work on. I am editing the 2nd episode on the engine pull currently so stay tuned.

Won't you have to zoom in more to encompass the green screen
@MaggiesMakeover72
@MaggiesMakeover72 Жыл бұрын
Just beginning to learn the basics of green screening. Most of my editing is done in an app called iMovie that came free on my MacBook Pro. I have found that you just need to insure that the green screen covers the part that you want to superimpose on the background. I am presently using a 5' wide x 6' tall green screen that seems to do the trick. The trick is to frame (ie zoom in) enough to get the right size with the background. It isnt necessary to shoot within the green screen as iMovie allows you to capture just the part that you want to green screed while blocking out any portions of the image beyond that.

Ah yes.......the money question. I struggle with this all the time.....does it make sense to spend money on a 50 year old car? Like all good women, Maggie has a way of making me open my wallet!

Hey Danny.....thanks for taking the time to to ride along with Maggie and I. As I have had a number of comments similar to yours, starting in episode #7, I will only have music during the short episode intro and wrap up sections of each video. Point well taken and I appreciate the feedback!

Hey David......thank you for taking the time to comment. Episode 2 was broken down into 4 parts. While I believe people are interested in seeing what had to be done to pull the motor, they didnt want to sit through one 2 hour long video. I am trying to keep my videos a 30 minutes or under.

This will be a great watch..but definitely tone down the music...not sure if getting the old band back together and having them jam behind you while narrating was a good choice...otherwise it's a MG...it will be a fun project...and bonus,, it goes to your daughter...

I greatly appreciate the feedback Anthony! I guess that I always think that my voice is monotonous and kind of drones on. The music is/was an attempt to counteract that. I have a friend who thinks that is not the case and is encouraging me to move to a judicial use of music in the episodes. I now watch other videos with a keen eye as to how they approach this topic.

@MaggiesMakeover72 the work your doing is interesting enough...keep at it..and keep you body work to a minimum..it will help with keeping the car insurance down..get some miles out of it...

@@anthonyavorio7029 thanks for the vote of confidence. The body work will be the most expensive part about the restoration. I have received some quotes that range from $20-$30K. While I am not trying to spend $50K on a at best $20K car, I do want it to have that walk up curb appeal to it and bring it to some local car shows.

Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and apologies on the audio portion. Many have had the same comment. This was my 2nd video and I was still learning how to properly mix the sound from all of the various clips and the music as well. Check out the last episode as I believe it is much better. Thanks again for watching!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. It was the first car that I had stored. I never thought that it was going to be a 40 year hibernation and I did make some mistakes on it. Yes a cover would have been preferable and I should have drained the gas tank (you will see why in the fuel tank replacement episode). Live and learn.
