Lviv National Literary and Memorial Museum of Ivan Franko (Franko House )
We present to you our new video blog, "Petro Franko: Return of a Legend," dedicated to Petro Franko. He was a chemist-inventor, athlete, Plast scout, soldier of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen and the Galician Army, aviator, writer, educator, museum worker, and the third son of Ivan Franko. Petro's name was unjustly erased from Ukrainian history for several decades.
In the first episode of the video blog, we offer you an interview with historian Ihor Medvid and Natalia Tykholoz, a researcher of the life and work of Ivan Franko's children, director of the Institute of Franko Studies at Ivan Franko Lviv National University, and a Ph.D. in Philology. This conversation will reveal milestones of Petro Franko's life, his unique character and multifaceted personality, the circumstances of his upbringing, his achievements, and setbacks. The interlocutors discuss love, the experience of victories and the trauma of defeat in the national liberation struggles, the circumstances of being under surveillance by special services, the "collaboration" issue, the plagiarism scandal, Petro's mysterious death, his erasure from history, and the period of oblivion.
The project "Petro Franko: Return (from) Legend" was implemented by the public organization "Association of Museums of Ivan Franko" thanks to the financial support of the ZMIN Foundation in 2023.
