@Fish Jelly Film Reviews why am I sobbing? And why is this sooo relevant to me right now. Having just reconnected with my 29 yr old niece I helped raise after 6 years of estrangement. This is a series that hit home more than I thought. But on a creative level this storyline is engaging without being to slow, heart wrenching with so much mystery. Thank you for this experience.

Sigourney I think is always bringing something …even when narrative less than could be… she has always been really unique from an acting standpoint . She is pretty much money in the bank…could call her Sunday and she would be ready to bring magic Monday .

The book was left for the survivors of the flowers. Domestic abuse is not well recorded, especially early on. She wanted her family to carry on saving women of abuse.

I just started watching it, have watched two episodes, and am looking forward to more! I thing Sigourney is doing a good job at the accent, of course there are a few American twangs, but otherwise pretty stellar ( I am Australian). We pretty much all sound like the people in the series, the show feels very Aussie country town to me. Sigourney looks great in it, so statuesque and cool. Loving seeing her in it too! Love it that you guys are doing week by week reviews!!! I will stop rambling on now. Am about to watch the 2nd episode review! :-) :-)

So, I’ve been wanting to check this out, but time got away from me and I totally forgot it. I’m only on ep 1 and I was so pissed. The parents are disgusting. I didn’t care that the mother was pregnant and could hardly muster any sympathy… I agree that the cop's wellness check was bullshit. Her body language was enough for me and I’m a school teacher! I was also pissed that Sally didn’t get custody because June didn’t give a fig and it seems that Sally was the only person that cared. Let me go onto episode 2 because it appears that Sally isn’t letting go without a fight. Oh! Isn’t there a hint that Sally and Agnes has some history?

The actress playing the little girl isn't the actress from Fear the Walking Dead. She shows up later in a time jump.

FYI, Before Alice "accidentally" dropped the lantern she was previously feeling motivated to do so out of rage from her sick abusive father. What motivated her was the cornfield burning in flames and the book that she picked from the library. She wanted to drop it accidentally. After she notice her father coming home, she ran back into the house while her dad was calling her. When her father saw Alice ruining away and ignoring him, he went into a rage and started chasing her, instead of putting out the fire. The mother ran after him to try to stop him from beating Alice. Father kept beating and choking Alice and mother behind him beating the father up trying to protect her daughter. And that's how both parents died. They died from beating each other senseless. It was a very intense and dramatic moment. 😢

The spotlight on the flowers you gave had me amazed! Next, you point out "what the arrangements are saying" narrative, and that had me ☺! Just seemed important, and relevant, similar to the art of Ikebana sculptures? Just guessing, this series is women centric issues...*but* liked that your watching it!☺

I have a different theory about the flashback where Alice's mom tries to commit suicide and I'm curious what you guys think! Alice sees her dad as a phoenix and her mom as a selkie. Just like the selkie, Agnes was tricked/trapped by a man and has two kids (a girl and a boy). Alice believes that she and her mom will one day escape together, but the story ends just like the book: Agnes returns to the sea alone, leaving her two kids behind. Just as Alice didn't actually light her dad on fire, I don't think her mom tried to commit suicide -- rather, that is how Alice comes to terms with her mom's death. (Spoiler alert through episode 4) And that's why Alice went into the river when she saw a disturbance -- she was going to see her mom, who followed her to Thornfield. Stories are how Alice sees the world: Alice in Wonderland in episode 2 where Alice learns about Thornfield. It's also fitting that everything we learn about June in this episode is a story, like the story of Clem's dad, the Robber Barron (Robin Hood). As Alice adjusts to life at Thornfield, it's like she's living in a dream -- and she wakes up to June's lies about her parents (well, at least a little). Then the Little Mermaid in episode 3. Alice regains her voice (errrr, first speaks in this case) with Oggie. We learn in episode 4 that they fell in love, so I think that's an adequate parallel to Ariel regaining her voice when the prince chooses her. Then there's the aboriginal story in episode 4 and it's clear that at least Alice, if not Twig, fell out of June's sky and landed on earth never to be seen again. Pretty much every book we see is woven into the story -- except Harry Potter, because Alice doesn't know Harry Potter 🤣 (Is that supposed to be a dig on JK?) (I also theorize that Clem will be reborn from the ashes in his son and will be "made new" like the fire gods book said. I think Charlie will turn out to be a good dude :) )

I thought Asher Keddie was by far the only exceptional part of Nine Perfect Strangers. She is a treasure that needs to reach the heights of Naomi Smalls etc
@TheTardisDreamer
@TheTardisDreamer 11 ай бұрын
I watched Nine Perfect Strangers purely for Asher Keddie (I love her in the show Offspring- she's amazing in it and it was very popular here). She was great but they definitely underutilised her, and as an Australian I was extremely unimpressed with how she was treated as a complete nobody in the marketing. I remember watching a trailer where they didn't even bother putting her name in the main cast credits with all the other actors. And she's a well known actress here! The complete disrespect and stupidity. And honestly I bet 'Nine Perfect Strangers' would've been 100x better if they had stayed true to the source material and kept it an Australian story with an Australian cast. Focus on actually telling a good story with a good cast. Rather than making a pretentious mess of a "prestige" show pandering to the egos of its big cast members.
