Episode 107: Hat Creek: Fishing the CASSEL Forebay

CNR session with spoons in the middle of the day after spending the morning grinding at Lake Almanor.

Nice fishing! The noise you hear is not the gates opening to let the water go down to the power house. It's when they move the metal grating to remove all the grass that flows down the creek. If you go behind the structure you can see all the grass that's dumped there. I live in Cassel and fish there every day.

When are you gonna pick up a fly rod?

I own one but use it sparingly. I was a lifelong bait fisherman who started using various lures 4 seasons ago so still finding out what works for me in various locations. I do enjoy the strike and fight on a fly rod but I need time to improve the casting/accuracy and then learning what flies to use when and where. Soon.

Hey man just letting you know those SDO trout spoons aren’t actually made by Ted he just buys them off of Ali express pre-painted he’s basically scamming people marking up the spoons one dollar

Yeah, I’ve been aware that he’s the middleman. Takes up to a month to get those spoons from the other website. I’ve always gotten my spoons within 2-3 days when I purchase from him.

On this section of Hat Creek, there are no restrictions. I just choose to practice CNR on this outing. Downstream, there are some restrictions which can be located on the Department of fish and wildlife website.

@@noskunkadventures5035 I must say - please learn more about catch and release. It's more than a philosophy. The object is to release the fish unharmed so they can live without tissue or nervous system damage.
