That doghouse shape is the schiznitz! The dog's bollocks...the bee's knees. Gives the boat such a purposeful appearance and dramatically changes the primary functionality from single-hander to family, offshore passage-maker. No one is ever going to look at that boat and wonder what it's for. You're going to love cruising in it. Love it!

I am loving the heart and soul you are putting into this beautiful boat. Can I make a couple of suggestions? I might make your videos a bit longer (other channels seem to run about 15-20 minutes not including ads). Also have you thought to reach out to Duracell to see if they want to be involved with the boat again? Your story is just as great and I'm sure you could negotiate a deal that would cost them a lot less that it did before. Just some ideas. Love the work and LaPaz! 👏👍

Thanks for your kind words, Dean! We are working on making longer episodes. The challenge is that I a doing all the work on Duracell during evenings and weekends after my day job as a shipwright. Our hope is that this channel will grow and afford me to work more on Duracell...and allow us to do more work and make longer episodes. We would love for Duracell, the company, to sponsor us, and have some ideas for what we could offer in exchange, but it's really difficult to get past customer service with that company. We need a contact who could be step in the door.

Thats a great shape, love it except I'm one thats not for big windows! If in a storm something knocks one out thats room for a lot of water to get in. What I'd do is build in threaded nuts in the hull where you can screw on some 3/4" plywood covers from the outside! Had a friend from top of the island that lost there big steel fish boat and crew except for one guy when a window broke out!
@TheDuracellProject2 жыл бұрын
Packrat your point is important and one I’ve though a lot about. We don’t plan to use the boat in higher risk areas, but stiff weather happens everywhere. I’ll definitely have weather boards at the ready. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

@@TheDuracellProject Take a look at the Nautistyles tour of the exploration yatch Beowulf.. look at its Cabin and dog house. And yes its good to have hurricane covers .. if a line breaks and a block or cleat is pulled loose and thrashing around it can smash standard polycarb windows or glass. There is ballistic grade polycarb .. Fully protected helms inside and/or out are the mark of a prepared vessel .. Laminated glass is strong and scratch resistant and doesnt fog, its long lasting but heavy.. A commercial glass cutter can cut it to size and shape. Luxury cars and RVs have even taken to using double glazed windows and hatches to minimise noise , heat loss and condensation. A combination of laminated glass forward facing and Plastic/ polycarbonate for less watch critical windows should give you a good performance balance. You could put polycarb Inside behind the glass so as to stop any ingress. The old fashioned deck prism also shows a way of getting light into below deck areas. Where windows or hatches would be vunerable. Ive recently seen a gentlemans yatch with dolphin windows set into the V birth close to the waterlines ..on Capt Q.s channel... thick Bullitproof glass they dip below the water in part when the vessels heeling so you can see dolphins riding the bow wave from your bed.🤷🏻♂️ The other issue is the number of strikes by vessels on lost shipping containers, flood and tsunami swept trees and free floating rubbish, whales and alarmingly drone submersibles.

Thanks, Rachael! Do you have a personal connection to its storied past or do you just like the look of it? :)
@RachaelSA2 жыл бұрын
@@jannekepetersen6591 No, I do not have any personal connection to her, I never knew she existed until about a month ago, but your video's make me feel like I do. And its not just the look, I do very much love the shape and size of her hull, but its far more than that, I love her back story of how she was hand built for racing and that she was almost lost at sea but someone loved her enough to limp her back home, where battered and bruised she patiently sat waiting for 25 years. And I love that someone cherished her for so long, yet they believed in Matt's vision and trusted him enough to give her to him so that he could save her. And I love that even though to some people it seems illogical, and impossible, she is getting converted into an ocean cruiser, and I really love the fact that she will always have the heart and soul of a thoroughbred racer. And I love that even though shes almost 40 years old, dirty and damaged, she still looks prettier than most modern boats, and I love that the two of you can see that in her, and most of all, I love that after all shes been through, against all odds, she will still make it back to _her_ ocean one day. I'm not a "good with words" person, but that's what I mean when I say "I love this boat
