I lost my mom and through inheriting her machine and stash found the love of sewing. I adore y’all’s relationship and it tears me up a bit. Love how loving yall are I wish I had sewn with my mom. 😊❤

Your episodes are so entertaining as well as informative such as today with quilt design explanations. Thank you Sherri, Chelsi, and Billy for the great job you do each time you put up a new episode. 👏👏👏

My copy of Family Favorites arrived 2 days ago, and I just LOVE the book. The quilts are gorgeous, and as usual, the team at It's Sew Emma did a fantastic job with the layout and the photography. This may sound silly, but my very favorite page is page 3. It is a photo of stacks of the 10 different colors making up both Strawberry Lemonade and Laguna Sunrise. Those fabrics take me to my happy place. I just love sewing with these beautiful, colorful fabrics.

I’ve been using EQ8 for a couple years now. I use it mainly to re-color with fabrics, but can use it to “re-create” anything. I had a great quilt teacher tell me once, when you are at Quilt Festival (I live in Houston), a show, see a pattern or quilt. Concentrate on the components of the quilt, the blocks, not the quilt as a whole. I always take a notepad with me everywhere and a 6” x 1” ruler in my purse. 😂

Thank you so much, Billy, for telling us about the eq tutorials on KZbin. Does anyone know if I can use it on my android phone, or do I need to get my computer out that I haven't used for over 7 years. Wonderful show and tell 👏. Thank you to you all and the people who help you make all you design. ❤🎉😊

speaking of starting with ideas of wanting to combine blocks a different way, let me say how much I love the way the stems and leaves in "Harbor" run horizontal to the flower blooms as opposed to vertical. I have loved that so much since I saw it and its on my short list now, either the whole quilt or at least that row in a combined pattern row quilt yet to be determined.

I wanted to try a different background color for a quilt pattern but was unsure the original pattern would shine through with a different color. I used to print the pattern cover and use colored pencils to try to get an idea of what changes would look like. This time I used a photo editing app on my phone to “remove background” using the AI technology. Then I replaced the background with a jpeg I had saved of the fabric from the manufacturer website. I tried a few different options and it was so easy and fun! I ordered the background fabric and I am so happy with how the quilt is turning out.

Enjoyed learning about your pattern design process. I also won a copy of EQ 8 from my local quilt shop but I’m still quite a novice at using it. This podcast gave me the incentive to try using it again!

And now I know I'm on the right track. I also stroll through the encyclopedia of quilt blocks and find something new. For example the friendship star used to just strike me as primitive and not my style. Lately I've seen a version of a modified version everywhere. I think someone must be doing a series project but it's turning up a lot and I like the uses . I also sort through all the steps. Like fabric choices if I'm on the ball I put the fabric in eq library when I order it. I have a file box I call finishes. Where I collect all kinds of quilting methods and designs like the last two pages of AQ magazine has free motion designs I might tear those two pages out and put them in the file. I haven't wrecked the magazine it's often ads on back pages. My machine broke down this weekend. Bright side you organize all of these elements when you can't sew.

Does EQ8 also help you with writing the quilt cutting and construction directions, or do you do that yourself after the design is complete?
@jaynebromley3 ай бұрын
I wondered the same thing.

If you answered this question in the video I apologize, but when you’re designing quilts for an upcoming fabric line, do you have images of the fabrics that you can use in EQ8 so you know how they will look in that fabric, or do you have another method to approximate the look? This is a great discussion! I admit I have EQ8 but haven’t used it much. I found it kind of hard to navigate but I haven’t taken the time to really study it. I keep saying someday….. 😀

Love the Medallion quilt🧡 I have discovered EQ8 is terribly expensive😭 If I were a pattern designer or business selling my quilts, I could justify the cost of the program and a computer to run it. I’ll just continue to use my great books as tools💕🧵
@gamk83483 ай бұрын
am not interested in designing quilts, but would EQ8 help me to see a quilt with fabric placement? Like could I pull up a pattern and color it in with fabrics? I can’t “see” a finished quilt in my head and I am so overwhelmed with what colors to put where. I usually choose a quilt I like, buy the pattern and fabric and make it exactly the same. Sorry my message is so long!

So I like purchasing random fat quarters from my local fabric store. Sometimes the salvage edge is still on the fabric so that I have the name but sometimes not. I have thought many times about purchasing EQ8 software to help me use those fabrics in a pattern. I think I have heard that fabric can be downloaded/uploaded into the program. Could someone tell me whether what I am wanting to do is possible? I don’t want to create my own patterns per se, I just want to see how my random fat quarters may look together in a pattern. Also can patterns we have purchased be uploaded in the program? Thank you Sherri, Chelsi & Billy. Love your podcast!!

I am interested in using something like the EQ8 program that you talk about but right now I don’t have access to a good computer. It would be fun to play with a design program. I have a panel called “Press On” I bought and I am trying to design blocks and borders to go with it. I enjoy working on my Apple IPad. Wonder if there are any good apps that I could use on that? Do you know of any?
