I have saved this episode like a warm dessert to savour on a quiet, cozy evening... and ohh it was worth the wait! Bengal Spice tea, essential oils, Yell perfume, German recipes, the new books and the cards! Everything was wonderful... including your knits! Thank you for a great catch-up. I enjoyed every minute.

I have an incredibly heightened sense of smell, so the idea of engaging that in the planning and execution of such a grand knitting project really excites me. Thank you for sharing that journey. I look forward to seeing it unfold.

I've been patiently waiting for the perfume to "mature" and meld together. I will have a little forthcoming video on some plans for solid perfume ideas!

Ok, I’ve now completed watching all your public episodes over the last couple of months. Next I will be exploring the patron videos. A welcome support to my own breed specific, natural and naturally dyed knitting practice. My Manchelopis, single strand cardigan Mary Rebecca is coming along. I find the “tender” knitting encourages mindfulness. Its great that you have been able to travel again and share information about yarn and producers and designers. I also enjoy your exploration of other crafts. Many thanks. (Ravelry LMLK)

Thank you and wow what a feat all the episodes! I just realized this will be my 12th year of podcasting! Tender is a good word to describe that knitting experience. Thank you for your kind and encouraging feedback.

As someone with a very limited sense of smell, this idea is fascinating to me. I have never been able to smell many things or very often in my life. When I do, it’s normally bad smells. I’m just so mind blown over the concept of making your own perfume and then basing a color palette in that.

Always trying to turn the problems upside down...;) I get intimidated with going in to color selection cold without a prompt. Than you for chiming in here!

What a beautiful, cosy feeling episode, I could almost smell the fruity baking at the beginning. Like you I have a Yell cardigan planned to cast on over the holidays, initially I was thinking to knit it in the original palette as it was going to be a birthday present for someone but now it will be for me so would be a nice project to use my plant dyed Shetland wool. I'm so glad you were able to get Judit's book, what I think makes this book stand out from a lot of other embroidery books are the suggestions and recommendations for tools as well the numerous little tips and tricks she's learnt over the years, such as using a large enough piece of the soluble stabilizer when the work is in the hoop which steadies the fabric and stops the stitches being pulled out of sorts. (and you can then trim it before soaking in water and use those little pieces for embroidering on buttons, brooches, smaller pieces etc, maybe not on knits but on woven fabrics like tweeds) As always, happy knitting, and baking, and may your yarn always smell deep and rich of sweet sheepiness xx

It was lovely to enjoy your video while sipping my morning coffee and working on my Gloam cardigan. I find it very interesting to hear you verbally describe your feelings related to your knitting. The tension, the frustration, etc. That resonated with it as I have also felt similarly at times with certain projects.

Hey Sarah! Thanks for sharing your inspirations, once again! I loved the bit about scent and colour-work. What an Interesting way to go about finding the mood you want in a sweater. I am now interested in trying something similar for my next project. The smell and colour that came to me while you were describing the whole thing was plum jam. The other scents you described seemed to call it forth, giving me pictures of twilight on a late November eve while all the plants have turned brown before the snow; or, a fruit pudding in the oven while cedar logs burn on the fire.

Fruit pudding while cedar log burns! That's an amazing concept. I loved everything about this message. Thank you for sharing. I'm going to be working with some more scents forthcoming this month. So will take your descriptions to heart.

Beautiful ❤ thank you! Your Lovage is beautiful. I have Lovage and Yell on my list, too. Have the MCs for both. I ordered many, many other colors to choose from😂 I find I need a palette and the monochrome feature on my phone when attempting the subtle changes Marie Wallin includes in her work. I’m working on a test knit for Jessica McDonald in Green Mountain Spinnery’s Mountain Mohair.

The “Lovage” sweater you are wearing is absolutely beautiful. I feel inspired to dig into color work! Have not done much of it, but have recently discovered that I am NOT a lace knitter, after having finished my first (and probably last) lace shawl. I can relate to the uncomfortable energy you talk about when you begin to resent a project. I ripped the shawl back so many times, I had to ditch the yarn, it became too frayed. Tried a new yarn, slogged my way through (many rip backs, lots of life lines..) finally finished it, but it had me doubting my intelligence, and my self as an artist craftsman!! Not a fun feeling. I have made peace with myself, and am enjoying many other types of knitting avenues that fit with the way my artistic brain thinks. I think that sometimes knowing ourselves, or learning about ourselves in this way is valuable as we move through our choices of media to express our creativity. I am a mixed media and fiber artist, and do find it necessary to bounce among the various media to stay motivated and happy as an artist. Thank you for sharing your process and insights. Especially captured by your idea to use scent to experiment with your knit design process!
