Thank you! Just moved to NOLA and we are getting a large, metal Fluer-di-lis for the front of our abode! It is a brick house originally built in 1970 and I wanted to take care in how I hang the new piece! This is easy! ^..^

I swear buying a drill was the best thing I ever did 🤣 now I wake up every weekend trying to find home projects I can do.

I was told to never drill into the mortar, always the brick because the mortar can crumble or have air pockets.
@PrettyHandyGirl3 жыл бұрын
If this was exposed to water dripping down, I would agree with that statement, but it's not in this case.

Little late to the party but I agree with you. It doesn’t matter if there’s no water dripping on it. The weather will still get to it. You can see mortar damage starting already. It’s a cool idea though but I would’ve gone into the brick. Mortar also has air pockets
@crimeandcrafting Жыл бұрын
Yep. Always the brick. It’s not hard though if you have a hammer drill and masonry bits

Did you use two screws for the mailbox or four?

Would you recommend using the double sided tape you used in this video to put up Halloween decor on the exterior brick walls of our house? The fake spider I want to use is like 6x4 inches and weighs maybe about a pound.
@PrettyHandyGirl2 жыл бұрын
You could definitely do that for temporary decorations.

Omg using painter’s tape is SO SMART thank you

Definitely works like a charm.

This reminds of me the DIY person I bought my house from. I find myself redoing a lot of his mess that was done the wrong way. Never, never, never, never, did I say never, yes I said never drill into the mortar. Don't believe me just ask any home inspector or people who know building code. Doing this outside even if it's out of direct contact with rain will cause moisture to invade the hole, and deteriorate the existing mortar. In the end, you will have to fix it down the road. Every single time I've seen someone drill in the mortar of the house I bought I pull out all their crap and fill the holes in with fresh mortar. Lots of DIY gone wrong here on YT.
@PrettyHandyGirl2 жыл бұрын
Go troll someone else. There is no building codes against drilling into mortar in the US. If you watched, I filled the hole with silicone and can easily repair the mortar if it starts to deteriorate.

I feel like replacing/refilling mortar is way easier than taking out a whole ass brick with holes in it and replacing it.... I live in a rented building and am thinking of putting up house numbers and I wouldnt dare drill into this building's bricks lol I'd rather do the mortar.
@Hax0rZ12 жыл бұрын
@@aleks-33 go for it. Just keep in mind years of weathering, penetration and water damage your hole will cause when water penetrates the mortor. The only way to repair the water damage behind the bricks is to do extensive brickwork and remediation of the rotting wood behind it. Good luck unfortunately a lot of people will get a I told you so in the future.

@@aleks-33 I’m a landlord. Drill into the brick. I don’t care about a couple holes in the brick especially because it’s painted brick anyway. Much better than drilling in the mortar

Looks great but a higher contrast between the number colors abs background would make it much easier to see the house numbers from the street.
@PrettyHandyGirl3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! And I agree, I might change it by painting the numbers white.

@@PrettyHandyGirl It really is beautiful. I just always think about stuff like that because I often have terrible seeing house numbers and since I'm night blind I ESPECIALLY appreciate high contrast numbers at dawn, dusk, and night. Thanks for the great videos.

Why drill into the mortar?
@PrettyHandyGirl3 жыл бұрын
Because it's easier to drill into than the brick.

first I would like to say I love for videos, my question is about your face mask. I have made a couple hundred of them and everyone loves them. I am a friend ask me to make some for her son but he wear hearing aids. He wear to one elastic on his ears. i tried the one goes around his head but he also has implant on the side of his head so that doesn't work. do you have any ideas?
@PrettyHandyGirl4 жыл бұрын
Juanita, you could try feeding the strap through the sides and tie a slip knot to each side leaving just one strap around the neck. I'm not 100% sure if this would work but you should experiment with it.
@marilyncruz10303 жыл бұрын
Why don’t you just try Brick clips?
@PrettyHandyGirl2 жыл бұрын
In my experience they don't hold tightly and especially for the mailbox, I felt it would come loose.
@irenebartholomai39484 жыл бұрын
All you have to do is use alien tape
@PrettyHandyGirl4 жыл бұрын
I'll have to look into that type of tape, but I'd be concerned it would damage the paint on the brick.
