Just find your very interesting video at the end of the year, Howard. Thank you so much! To me it was a real eye opener. I am growing some dendrochilums as well, but I can only provide a window sill. For some of them that seem to work well but others may need a cooler environment. So I try to adopt my setting best as I can. Humidity however will remain a problem. Will see how it goes in the future. Wish you a Merry Christmas and looking forward to your next video!

Ahh, I saw that nice looking hydrometer early on in the video and was trying to get a look at the humidity level, then you went zoomed in on the lovely GDR vintage piece! Look forward to your next video.

Thanks. Well spotted. After a long wait I found two vintage hair hygrometers on E bay a few years ago. They are really useful and easy to read.

I have seen this species quite a few times before in their native habitat, and I do not remember the plants growing high up on trees but always in partial shade lower down below the canopy. The broad leaves are a sign that it prefers shadier conditions, and the plants benefit from droplets due to fog which trickle down from the overhanging vegetation.

Thanks Wally. I woud love to see them in the wild. What you have said makes perfect sense after seeing how they respond to different positions in my greenhouse.

Hi Howard, after watching your video, I got a den.glumaceum too since I wanted to smell that perfume! But mine has not started to bloom for me yet. Is it because they need to get cool to initiate the spike?
@HowardRice Жыл бұрын
Hi Mary. They should produce a flower spike in the centre of the new growths. At first they are difficult to spot as they begin to emerge from right down in the centre of the new leaf. Smaller, weaker growths produce only a new leaf and no flowers. They cover quite a wide temperature range in the wild so don't need winter chill to initiate flowers. Mine certainly don't get particularly cold. I think the most common issue is insufficient humidity and moisture so if yours doesn't flower this might be worth investigating. Hope that helps. Let me know.

@@HowardRice Thanks for the advice Howard. I will keep an eye on the humidity for it. I was thinking to put it in my shower together with my phals. Are they usually produce the spike in March or April?
