Thank you Duck for getting Glen Jakovich on. North Melbourne v West Coast in the mid to late 1990's produced some classic games. The 97 Semi Final and Round 1 1998 in particular. I watched the 1997 Semi as a young tacker and West Coast got the early run but the Kangaroos were that hard nosed, resilient long kicking side and they won with Duck kicking the match winning goal. As an Essendon supporter I used to wait for North and West coast games in the 90's just so I could watch the Carey and Jakovich battle. Those were the good old days of footy when you watched teams that you did not support just so you could see these awesome players. Carey, Ablett, Lockett, Dunstall, Salmon, Allen Jakovich, Modra as forwards and Mick Martin, Dustin Fletcher, Glen Jakovich, Archer, Scarlett as backmen. At CHF for South Freo he was a tall mobile key position that leapt for ball. Vigorous type. But as time went by he put on weight and became a muscle player and ran more in straight lines. Is there even a capacity to toughen up players in the current game? West Coast are so far gone at the moment that I'm considering following the Dockers just so my child has an opportunity to see a local team win... There are so many reasons why any West Coast player should walk aout with determination and pride and a "win at all costs and all effort" performance, and it's not happening. So WHERE is the incentive, what is the bargaining chip to get them to perform? So nice to see Jako and Wayne get together ❤

Here's an idea. Get more of these former players on. But then see if you can entice them to talk about modern players and who is good and who isn't. Who needs to step up etc. Too often critics don't want to give proper commentary about players, or you're hearing views of shockjocks like Cornes and Barrett. We want to know from the experts and legends, what makes current AFL players good or bad. A bit of controversy will give the podcast more headlines. Also the truth hurts is the name of it. Also the young generation will want to hear from legends if they're talking more about modern footy too.
