My take on death as I turned 60 was that it's coming fast, so I better stuff as much life in as I can. Been doing a lot of challenging and fun things since, and taking more risks. I'm a lot happier and healthier

At 19:00, with the realisation that as a species on this rock we are all in this together, I am strongly reminded of the final chapter in the film 'Ad Astra'. When all is said and done, and space turns out to be nothing but a silent void, all we have is each other, and one life only. For the protagonist, this realisation increases empathy and the desire to connect with people.

This was an early hack for me.’ Intimate experience of the senselessness of life and the behaviour of other people is a merit of child abuse happening to an intelligent, atypical child. (These are generally the success markers after such an experience) Admittedly hadn’t always been fun dealing with long term effects but it hasn’t crippled me. My delusions were almost exclusively relational coming out of that childhood and as I am schizotypal ,, quite weird and firmly held. A cheeky psychotic break was my mind’s bid for health and it did wonders :’) I feel lighter and more at peace with the awareness of the meaninglessness of life which would sometimes trigger the traumatic feelings around it. Now I still live alone in my all in one interests and outlet factory of an apartment and I’m just fucking cool doing shit I love doing for the sake of doing it. I do sometimes get suspicious of how long this will last 😂 but I am still schizotypal and that’s pretty normal for me. Would love to hear Camus through your perspective please . Upvote + 1 I'm a persistent and almost creepy lurker on your channel (I think it's fantastic..)

I’m a huge fan of your channel! In graduate school I studied semiotics and critical theory. Your episodes on Derrida and deconstructivism were wonderful refreshers. -The way I see this is that we have two jigsaw puzzles within our perception, which that it self is based off our meanings and values, though still, the first puzzle is of what circumstance will give us, one where it will connect the pieces, like cultural heroism. We are given this puzzle for free, and not of choice, and not of our own creativity. The judgements we internalize from the external world which shapes the ego within. The shadow which seduces our rationalization in the comfort of the character armor, as a gask mask we wear which we learn to breathe through the toxic teachings of the past. Though we must throw way the deck and make our own hand to play, as the first puzzle is incomplete, and doesnt reveal the full picture, where our understanding might have truths, but are incomplete and lack totality. So when you try to use the first puzzle that life gave you, and try to the connect the pieces they dont connect and you are left ramming them together, stuck in the instanity of the lack of creativity we supress through the obession of being incomplete. Thus insginficant and perhaps the deinal of the death, and the pursuit of constantly trying to connect what lacks the full picture, we get stuck circle arguments of the best of what we can imagine with this narrow minded framework. If I say create a new color in you head, you could think for as long as you can, even till death if that is what you wish, in your pursuit of the illusion. It is that our imagination has limits, and without the lived experience of seeing a new color you lack what you have yet to live through. The point is, that the first puzzle will not connect because you mind lacks the connection to how the pieces connect, it doesnt click, or i like to say its missing a variable to the equation. Its crazy how we can know something through the picture giving from the first puzzle piece, and yet lack the getting part of it. We can know something but not get it, this what I see as the invisible boundaries of blindness blindness. Where we are blind to what we are blind to, knowing there is a real absloute understanding out there, but lacking the ability to understand it due to human limitations of being human. Whether man or god came first, we can never know, and only take what we have now as a temporary truth, established by lines of reasoning. Now the second jigsaw puzzle is taking what you know, and getting it, stop ramming the pieces blindly together, as they were never meant to connect. Moving foward in life where it clicks for you, It is to create you own jigsaw puzzle by volition of your choice. To be you most self, be the most authentic person you can be through affirmation of performance of outcome of your postive rituals. To understand its not about hearing a million videos, and learning everything, its about learning the right things for you to complete your own puzzle. One where you have faith in sigficance of the future self, to put an ideal at the top of your value hierarchy, which is in synchrony with what is most meaningful to you. This is where the religous convictions comes in, as meaning itself can not be seen in the present, but only by you in the future. For example if you ever want to loose weight, its all about postive rituals, and consistency with going to the gym and being a little active each day. Do this long enough your future self will find physical greatness. But not perfection as perfection is not real, the most you can do is be great and your real self. However the mind is cruel when jt is struggling, and as soon as you look and the mirror you dont see the progress = the meaning. As it can never been seen in present by yourself, only by others affimations. Wheather the symbolic is for the phyisical or the spiritual (what is meaningful), is abtained through choice to be genune in the heroic pursuit. "happy life is impossible, the highest that a man achieve is a heroic life." schopenhauer -The second puzzle is to do right for the soultion on how the pieces connect for you, to where you make life just click for you. You figure out how to live, the live you are destiny to live. Not one of the first puzzle but one create by freedom and through the choice. Think of it like Hard choices; easy life or easy choices; hard life. As you know the best thing you can do is for yourself is it to do what it is honorable, good and right. And based in some level of truth, And atleast dont lie. Its ok to be weak but its a vice to stay poverty. Do not do what is wrong in the face of what you know to be right. Where having constiency in you ideals is a upmost importance. It is to make a choice and not let circumstance take you by, sure at the end of the day, life is deterministic, of cause and effect dominos which we can only push in the right direction to take what is good, and most importantly to accept what is bad, and to acknowledge it. And never to run away from what we fear, as we give it the will of the mind, and the body and soul seperates. Dispair comes from two places ignorance of the what we are navie to, where learn something once and we move foward, and arrogance is dispair from the expectations of controlled outcomes. A a happy life is impossible, the highest that a man achieve is a heroic life. Though know it is human nature to tolerate pain, but we fear discomfort more than all, we say its painful but we mean is fearful. To force will power to the point of overburden, and live through tiredness, is hell we think of in changing to take on more responseability. Though we have a brain which develops skillpower, and we can make life simple. Life will never be easy, as this diminsh the merit of the hardships we through. But who said it was going to be easy? To give up is part of the character armor and is a part of the denial in death. Doing the best of what we think is self centered, self feeling, self based (ego) for the moment, as it distracts from the large responseabilibty of taking on heroic transendence. Knowing the honor in doing what is most meaningful not through expident means but one of indepdence and freedom. Action with optimism, of waiting for better times to come, and create the expecations not control by the fear of uncertainty. And most importance is to know passive optimism is rationalizations hiding the denial of death. You must be in the pursuit of experience which you future self will find most meaningful. To find joy in to do good, not where its is a sacfice but a part of what we see as right choice to make. whether the greatest joy is love, exploration, or creation the price determines the value. And understand the value of why people stay in denial, and understand the better argument. Its not about being the most competive its about being the most co cooperative. Do not become obessed in the joy of self lacerating the guilt of yourself, whether due to the inauthenticity due to the depedence of the first jigsaw puzzle, full picture is not a good map for the world. And we get stuck staring at the map leading us off course, and constantly living in the coping of overcorrections, jerking around in life, and not understanding the smooth ride waiting for us all. to compensate for the evil, as to fight fire with fire only leads to more fire, it is to fight fire with water. The way you move past fears, or addictions is put yourself in the moment of fear or withdrawl, and accept how you are feeling, and to acknowledge this is ok. When you know you can make another person smile, you know how to treat others right, its is to treat yourself like you are responseable for someone else. And that is yourself in the future, and the friends and love ones and the good times awaiting you, when you take responseability and truth into your actions, -"Alas, I have known noble men who lost their highest hope. And henceforth they slandered all high hopes. Henceforth they lived impudently in brief pleasures, and they had hardly an aim beyond the day. Once they thought of becoming heroes: now they are sensualists. The But, by my love and hope I entreat you: do not reject the hero in your soul! Kee holy your highest Hope!" = nietzsche

Maybe people feel better about themselves convincing themselves that "fear of death" is the reason they do all these things, rather than say it is to bolster their sense of identity. Maybe "fear of death" is their transference object for the incompleteness of their value system. In other words, people don't fear death, they regret that they don't feel that they know the right thing to be doing, or are so greedy as to only be content to be doing "the best" thing, as though the only way to discover it is to try everything. That too might be a transference object for their fear of missing out i.e. completionist - the desire to know everything (however lackluster that may indeed be and worse to pursue).
