They say “comparison is the thief of joy” and I think that is so true. Especially in the age of the Internet it can be so, so difficult. Finding a balance with influencers/media, etc can be so hard. With all the things I like to affirm by saying “this is enough” and it makes me so grateful and glad.

Thanks for saying what you do to remind us about comparisons and kindness not only towards others but ourselves. Happy Dance for just being blessed with the desire to make and share as much as we each are able.

Well said! I am always amazed by the projects you are able to complete. But my life is different from yours, and we don’t have the same priorities or responsibilities…so expecting to have the same results is comparing apples to oranges. For me personally, I have worked hard to develop the habit of finding joy in another’s accomplishments without comparing it to mine. And I’m happy to say that all that you do brings me a smile and joy!

A phrase I use with my students when they compare their speed to another is , 'Embrace your pace, it's not a race'. Not sure where I heard it but it makes so much sense.

I appreciate your soap box speech because my mom died in May, and I've not knit at all until tonight. I've gone so far as avoiding my favorite knitting podcasts and barely acknowledging my stacks of yarn right in my room. I decided tonight that I miss it so much and started catching up on your podcasts while making a sock for my most knit worthy friend. So thank you 💜

I really like the sequence from light to dark on Lilly’s sweater. Dark on the cuffs and bottom won’t show the dirt as easily.

Kay, you are blessed to be one of the fastest knitters I’ve ever seen. I remember years ago sitting around the table at The Salty Sheep and having to walk over and stare at you knitting bc I couldn’t believe how fast you knitted. We all have gifts and this is one of yours. I do appreciate you taking time to caution listeners on comparisons. I’m not a fast knitter-I just try to enjoy the journey. I am inspired by your sock productivity. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the conversation about knitting time & speed. Sometimes I feel guilty because I knit so much but I’m retired and it’s what do for enjoyment. I’m sorry others doubt your honesty & integrity about hand knitting. Very enjoyable podcast!

Thank you so much for this, Kay! So very important to remind ourselves not to compare our own lives to others'. The new format for Summer Sock Camp is a terrific way to put this into practice--no deadlines, no competition, no race to finish "X number" of socks in a summer, no pressure! Love it. Thank you for being YOU, and sharing yourself and your knowledge so warmly and so generously.

You are so right about not comparing ourself to each other. We are all different and special in different ways. I am a very slow knitter and that’s just me but happy with what I get done. Just love the process of knitting! Love your podcasts so much and love everything you share! ❣️🧶

I suffer from frequent hand/wrist pain, so I have to take A LOT of breaks, sometimes having to take a whole day or two off of knitting. Because of this I often feel bad that I'm not finishing my projects fast enough, or that I should be working on a project despite my hand pain. But then I stop and remember, "who cares how much you knit in a month??? focus on taking care of yourself so you can still knit when you're 80!!!"

WISE words!!! ♥♥♥ I am glad you shared that. Society for hundred of years compare things and themselves and it can lead into such a bad mood.

Great episode as usual. Especially your comments on comparisons. I have always told my students, the only person you can logically compare yourself to is yourself. Comparing yourself to others makes absolutely no sense. I like to say, comparisons are odious (when it comes to those between people). We´re all on different paths, we all come to the table with different situations, skills, and experience, so we need to accept that and gauge the work we do our own dang selves, not look at what others are doing and compare or judge. Love your socks and your spirit!

Sometimes I get a little... I think the best word would be 'jealous'... that people have so many wips at once. Then I remember that I really cannot work like that. Way back when, at a parents' conference, one of my teachers once told my parents that while my work was good, it would be better if I would work more than one project at a time. I get what they were trying to say - but it would burn me out quickly.
Episode 198 / I frogged all of the projects.
