Episode 2 Will it splice Chinese Fusion Splicer

Done over 5000 splices on AI-7, never had a problem with it. Certifies fine with EXFO 945 OLTS, both SM and MM. I can confirm that electrodes last roughly 3000 splices. Just make sure you clean the fiber properly. Battery is good for 150-200 splices/heating cycles on a single charge, depending on the environment. It was a night and day difference going from EasySplicer mk2 to AI-7, and I'm sure AI-9 only makes it better with better zoom and faster splicing and heating time. All in all, incredible value for money. P.S. My only gripe with this splicer is that the box is too small for my liking, kinda makes it hard to sit on while working in the field in a cramped space. Sumitomo boxes are much nicer for that purpose.

Do you perhaps know the reason why the arc calibration fails ?

I would calibrate it and splice 12 to panel and do some insertion loss testing with a launch reel and OTDR. I have used cheap fusion machines (DVP) and had a clean splice but when tested it failed at over .3 very consistanly fail but these amchines need calibrating before each use typically.

Not true, I calibrate my AI-7 couple of times a year, to adjust for the temperature change between summer and winter.

Honestly depends on your workload if your just starting out, or if your just looking to do the odd splice here and there then I can't see any drawbacks mine is still functioning perfectly.

Yes still going strong have not used it much recently got a new Sumitomo to use and try out but its still working fine.
