My oldest daughter is 6 and has started becoming interested in my socks, so I make a pair for her with my leftovers. I can make a pair for me and a pair for her with about 5g left over (or a bit more if I use a contrast). That’s a perfect amount to put in a scrappy blanket or two. And it feels soooo good to use up an entire skein of yarn!

I think making another pair if socks with leftovers is a great idea! They'd be perfect for gifts. Or another idea would be short cowls. I've made them using 50 grams before. I think there's a video here on KZbin called Sock Yarn Cowl where I got the pattern.

I sometimes make a 2nd pair of socks but use a different mini than the first pair. Most of the time I use the leftover yarn to make fingerless mitts for gifts. Love your podcast!

I would not knit a second pair of socks out of the same yarn, unless I was making them for someone else. I just don't need two pairs of the same socks. I would keep (and I do) yarn that is tonal for making heels, toes and cuffs for as many other pairs of socks as possible, or use some for colourwork fingering weight sweater....

I do like the idea of using it for heels,toes, and cuffs. I just like making the yarn last.

I frequently knit my mother and either myself or my sister socks with the same skein of yarn. The only thing I do is weigh the yarn both before I start the first sock and after I finish the first pair. I then weigh the yarn after the first sock of the second set just to make sure I have enough. Only once (when I didn’t weigh the yarn before I knit the first sock) did I run out of yarn.

I do make scrappy stuff but if I had that much left then I would either make another pair or trade with someone for a different half skein

Because I like socks with textures, then yes, I would definitely make 2 pairs of socks from 1 skein of yarn . You are not at all delusional for wanting to do it! Jinny - UK
