Hi Martyn, I’m a definite list maker, I make lists of what I want to do, in craft and in life, so for example I’ll do 2 lots of washing, tidy and dust the living room, but it may go by the wayside if something else more interesting comes up (playing Lego with grandsons “intrudes” a lot) I’m easily distracted , so I don’t always complete my lists. Same with projects - this year I said I’ll work on my crochet cardi, then mosaic shawl. I could do a bit of both up the shawl is upstairs and I keep forgetting to bring it down. I also promised DH that my knitting corner would be tidier this year 🤣🤣🤣(We always say we are going to be tidier - several times a year, but we do fall by the wayside on that). I have also cast on a new project for Christine Perrys Winterhaven KAL, it’s a mosaic sock which looks really effective, so after agonising over colours I cast that on yesterday. I’ll try and keep that for K&K which are getting going again, and do the cardi at home. Finished back and fronts and just have the sleeves to do. Good luck with your plans, especially the steeking. Take care, stay safe x

My dear Martyn....there are two groups of knitters/crocheters....progressknitters and procesknitters...that's who we are :) The most important thing is the joy! Besides that...look at all the things you DID finish in 2021....that's also a lot isn't it? With all the experience of the last view years I believe you can finish all the wips in a short amount of time....go for it! :)....BUT enjoy!

For the first time in my knitting life I have no UFOs . I finished last year all of them and now I feel a little lost and incomplete. It's spooky. My current wips are a pair of socks, a sweater for my nephew and a loop for my niece. And they are already finished. This year I will drastically reduce my stash - oh yes really drastically (and produce new wip's - hahaha it seems it's a never ending story). It's good to have a plan, but it is better to be flexible. Thanks for the time you spent with us. It was a great pleasure to see your wip's.

I think we all have WIPS that we put away for various reasons. If your projects were mine I would finish the hat first and then the argyle sweater for Mark, then the Steek (of those long term things). They sound like they would go pretty fast. It would make Mark happy for you to finish one of his. Always have to make our partners be important too. Now if I could finish the two sweaters, socks, shopping bag and the Peanuts Gang character knits....my knits in timeout...I would be happy. Currently have a cabled sweater and two pairs of socks I am actively working on. Knitting is our happy place!

So excited to see this video! I think I actually squeeled when it popped up! This week, I'm working on an afghan I started in 2013! I'm going to work (and hopefully finish!) 17 projects this year. That will leave a bunch left, but I'll worry about those later. I finished a hat and a pair of mitts over the last few days, so I feel that I can cast on a new item. I love the 'Purl the Pops' idea. I have two skeins similar to that Colorful Creativity yarn. I have given up telling people I'm making something for them so there is no weight of feeling of people looking over my shoulder. (yes, I agree that 2022 is crazy. Even crazier is that 3 years from now is 2025!)

Really neat podcast. I usually only have two projects going and rarely have any idea what the next one will be. Your 16...18...projects boggles my. mind! You have reminded me that I have frogged or redone several projects over the years. Hats and several attempts to achieve the perfect thrummed mittens. Very Pink Knits says those mittens are the warmest thing you can knit for your hands and my hands get verrrry cold! It is fascinating to hear about your many WIPS you will be picking up and revisiting and those you will do in the future. A joy to follow along and then see the finished creation! Best wishes for every day!

Lots of fun to watch. Have you ever watched Roxane Richardson, a US knitter? She advocates "Finish it February," which is an incentive to not let them pile up. I think she had over 40 the first year she approached the mountain--it took a year, not a month. But she's caught up now. She's very good at teaching techniques. Take care and your optimism is an incentive.

Love this video vlog! You are ahead of me as I too have so many WIPS , but many are not even started, but ready to go, and I have some that only need an hour or more that are even older than yours! We follow that next shiny object!!! You Owl Cushion will be great once you start it over, but if you can't find a pillow form they are easy to sew and you just make the shape you need. I think maybe a smaller size needle would make the stitches better for a cushion, but I like it taller and narrow as it fits the shape of the Owl better. I enjoy all your episodes and love your outdoor footage as well. It is so fun to see different countries. Your nieces and now nephew too are lucky to have you knit for them!! Some podcasters have Finish It February....I have yet to finish many, but a good thought. Thanks for sharing!!

Hi Martin. I have a book with all my wips in, knit, crochet and x stitch. I have my yearly goals that can change of be added too. Each month has a separate list of projects to work on. When I finish a project a new one is added. All unfinished are carried over to the next month. Get through the projects really quickly that way 😊

As a fellow wip-a-holic, I loved this! Not quite sure how many wips I have - at least 10 on needles and another 4 at least that just need the ends woven/blocked and they're done (don't ask how long they've been waiting... 🙈). But I was able to get a baby blanket off the needles while watching this video and pulled out a messenger bag I started 10-15 years ago! 😆 which isn't even my oldest wip - I have an older blanket and then technically my first scarf is still on the needles (but don't count as an active wip) - sentimentality attached to my mistakes on that one, so thinking about ripping back to a swatch size and seeing if I can add it into a patchwork sweater I've been making to use up scraps. I don't think I could be a monogamous knitter though - I love having different projects at different stages and different levels of complexity at all times. It makes for the best stress free knitting experience because I'm really not bothered by having multiple projects on the needles for years - I'm definitely a process knitter!

Plans are a beginning.... a way to begin thinking which direction to go. They are meant to be altered as you go along, because you often know more than when you began. Sometimes your taste evolves into something entirely different. Sometimes your skills have improved. Sometimes you've seen a new color combo you wish to try. Whatever..... make a plan, then just do what you need to do.

I have to laugh at your "old" wip"s from 2019. I have a wip I plan to finish this year. It is a sweater from an English magazine, that I got when I lived in England, from 1988-1990. The front is finished to the yoke. I actually plan on finishing it in 2022. Found it in 2021, but not enough time to finish it last year. This year is the year to finish, or frog, all the wips. There are about 7. Another is a blanket started somewhere near 2005-2008. It is now almost finished, as I was going to get it done in 2021 as well. Great intentions. Loving this episode.

The color work sweaters got buried into the back of my closet and finally saw the light.. they will be frogged and donated to my local church run thrift shop..at least that's what I'm telling myself...there should be a knitting anonymous group for us with unfinished works.

At the beginning of 2021 I vowed to FIFI (Finish It FIrst), completing one UFO before casting on a new project. I became completely disciplined and monogamous-- at least for one year-- and it worked. I had 3 sweaters that were more than 75% complete but I'd either run out of yarn or encountered a problem in the pattern. Determined to finish them, I stayed the course before I allowed myself to cast on something new. Three sweaters were added to my wardrobe, on top of other projects begun and completed during the year. Face it, the desire to keep casting on is always there (especially for those who have stash at the ready--thankfully that's not moi!) and if we keep doing that without having a plan for how/when we'll complete them, the pile will only grow. Wishing you luck, Martyn, with your well-conceived plan.

Hi you crazy funny boy. You are definitivly the King of WIPs! I had a big smile on my face while watching your podcast. I love those people like you which are living their follies and can laugh at themselve. I educated myself to have a maximum of 5 WIPs, because when the are put in a bag over 1 year they are dead, I will never do them to the end. But my weakness is yarn. I cannot stop buying it for planned projects. I think I have enough for projects for years. Thats my madness. ;) Greetings from Regine, stay well.

Sunday afternoon to you …… absolutely loved this video. Brilliant seeing your WIPs as it makes me feel so much better.😂 I have only 4 WIPs on the go and didn’t used to have any until hearing it was all right to start a few projects without finishing the old ones. I have a Drops cosy jumper on the go - started with Christmas wool, then a Rowan tank top, then another tank top which I have just started for my daughter and finally a blanket for my daughter. She used to be able to crochet and had all the wool kit to make a blanket but after an operation she cannot use her left hand ( but she can finger knit now with loopy wool) so she asked me to knit the blanket in the same colour way . I love Marks pullover and will look forward to seeing that finished. I also love your attitude about not stressing as that is mine. We knit to relax and should not give ourselves time scales . This has been so enjoyable so many thanks 🧶🧶🧶

Loved spending time with you talking about your wips! I would finish your beanie first! A quick knit and a great feeling of achievement in reducing your wips! I have 4 at the moment because I was really ruthless back in the summer and cleared a lot, mainly through "disposing of" or frogging. My oldest is the sewing up of an Alan Dart (I think) wizard which must be about 7 or 8 yrs old!! It keeps being put back in the naughty corner as I can't stop the head from wobbling about!! Disappointed there was no mention of Morag the Highland coow!! I agree with your philosophy of no stressing. It took me a while but thanks to watching your videos and listening to you, I now find knitting a very enjoyable hobby!! Look forward to seeing you soon!!

Awesome video! I had to pause it to make this comment though. Your owl is beautiful! Personally I would make a back to match, sew it and either stuff a pillow case with dacron to get the correct size, or buy two small square pillow inserts. That way you're so close to the finished item and haven't lost all of that beautiful work! Totally get it if you want to frog it but I had to write my idea just in case ;)

I just found your channel, and I just adore it! I am going back and watching from the beginning. From what I ha vf e checked out so far, you have just the right balance of chattiness and knitting content. It's so wonderful that you talk techniques and show yourself working on a project at certain points and show the technical aspects. I have only been knitting for 2 years, so I really appreciate that context. So many people talk about what they are working on and give you a parade of finished knits, but they really don't show the audience much in the way of construction. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your channel. And hello from Savannah, Georgia!

Love your VLOGS. Sunday breakfast treat(Melbourne,Australia) Too intimidating to count my WIPs but my plan for 2022 is 1 WIP, one new, and some Christmas Decorations each month. So January- 1. WIP- Yarnspiration’s Crochet Lacy top (2021) 2. One of MJsMerryMinis 25 Christmas Decorations, 3. New start small thing. January is Morag from Toft ( missed the Advent so Morag was compensation) So 9/1 update, Morag just needs ears, horns, tail and construction ( love her) and 8 decorations done!!! Slow and steady on the WIP but taking inspiration from you, I am not too fussed if WIP carries over. Plus I am on holidays so things will slow down when I get back to work! So probably peaking too early!

Loved seeing your WIPs. You hit the nail on the head when you talked about knitting and crochet being your fun and your relaxation. I currently have 10 projects in the works, and a six more in line to begin. I am not stressed by that because I experienced crafting burn out once before when I tried to “get it all done” during a period when I tried to create baby blankets for all my coworkers. (I am an elementary teacher lots of young people in the building). Things went great until one year when a group of teachers were all pregnant together (one with twins) and I found that I needed to do 8 baby blankets in a school year. At that point it became a job and a bog. When I really thought about it. Some of those people I barely even knew and it didn’t make sense to me that I was so stressed out by my hobby. Sooo…my projects get done when they get done now and I knit for my enjoyment. I always keep a finished baby blanket in my stash, also got with a couple of pairs of finished socks. So when a gift is needed, I don’t stress about finishing it “NOW”. If I can’t finish the dedicated gift, I give one of my stashed ones. And if it isn’t someone I am close to, I don’t feel badly if I have to resort to a purchased gift rather Than a handmade one. Good luck with all your projects. I will be especially excited to see your finished argyle jumper, because that is an outstanding piece already!

I really have to work on stash yarns so no buying unless it’s a gift or if I go to Amsterdam - then it’s fine 😂 But I have too much now and I need to use leftovers as well. I've been meaning to dig into my pile of WIP's and yarn remnants to get organized. You've inspired me to get started. To recover/reuse yarn that has already been worked into a project, I use a niddy-noddy to re-drape the yarn into a hank. It's then easy to wash. And goes easily onto a swift for re-winding. Look up 'how to use a niddy noddy' youtube. Also, there is a video on youtube of how to make your own niddy-noddy using PVC pipe. Very inexpensive and easy to do. Thanks for the content!

Wow! I just loved following you around your projects and see what really is on all those needles. I love that cabled sweater you (just) started to Your dearest. I made one that looked very much like it for my father. The big difference being I didn’t find a suitable men’s pattern so I modified Norderney by Isabel Kramer so it would fit a gentleman instead of a woman... I got some wips myself, hopefully (for me) not as many as you so I’ve decided that 2022 (at least some of it) is for finishing stuff... not least a Tulip for my son with elements of your Boseron(?) in colour changes for the arms and body. So I can use more leftovers in it. I’m looking forward seeing how it goes with all your projects and see you in another sweater you are making for yourself!

I have two long termish knits (both cast on in 2021) and they cause me major anxiety!! I'm not a person who can have a lot on the needles because then my anxiety takes over and I just stop. I'm planning on knitting a lot from my stash this year. I have so much yarn and that causes me anxiety as well because I can't choose because I love it all so much. Definite plans are a ton of socks because I can knit them while I teach, at least a few shawls, baby knits as they come up, and I'd like to knit a sweater for myself. We'll see what happens.

Hi Martin, I found your podcast during Vlogmas. I enjoyed seeing your wips. I currently have four on the needles, a honeycomb baby blanket, Odyssey shawl, a Flax and a Glacial light tee (it’s summer here in Australia). I am one that just buys yarn with no purpose and have filled about 5 large containers, a space bag and a box! My aim for this year is to knit from stash as much as possible and am only going to replace half of what I use. I’ve started a spread sheet to track it all and will see how that goes! I am going to make some Andrea Mowry patterns, the wool and honey, throw over jumper and pink fizz. I’ve also got a couple of West Knit shawls planned.

I'm very easily distracted and for every item I finish there's another project I got bored with. You've inspired me to have a sort out as I want the finished products.I also just cast on a new shawl but my lovely needles are no where to be seen .( Probably on a half finished shawl !!

Thanks for sharing Martyn! It's good to have a new year begin and to take time to see what projects you have and what just needs to go away. Can't wait to see Mark's argyle finished.

Hello Martyn! I too cast on too many projects than I should and I too work on projects for others before myself. But they will all get done ! I thoroughly enjoy your vlogs. Your energy is infectious.

It's so silly that something so small as a line in the wool can bring us to a standstill. Loved seeing your wips. I admit I've only got about three and two of them are for the same baby due in March. The other is my pair of socks. !ist a bit of time before Christmas as I just overwhelmed with ever and I couldn't pick up my crafting at all. But feeling lots better now and much more positive. I'll get these baby makes out of the way and then, hopefully, get back to my socks Have a safe and healthy 2022. xxJane

Great video Martyn! I have no where near the number of projects on the needle that you have. I frogged 3 projects that I knew I wouldn’t get any further on and will repurpose the yarn into something else. As usual, I have a pair of socks & a Musselburgh (in lieu of a Sockhead) on the needles. These are the two projects I always have going. I also have a Reyna and the wool caked and ready to make another shawl once I have the Reyna finished. And someday, I’ll knit a Flax Light. Looking forward to your next video.

I love how there are so many different things on the needles. All of them beautiful. You said you are making your Mom a Love Note. I've heard that's a good one to make. I fell for the Ranunculus sweater. I've made so many, and in different weights of yarn and different needles. Some are long sleeve, some short. Great and very fast knit. I am so happy I found you during Christmas this year. I am looking forward to seeing all you knit this year. Thank you for sharing all of your knits. I finished the Shawlography shawl last year and I am currently working on and almost done with the Slipstravaganza shawl by Stephen West. I have a scrappy crochet blanket I work on when I have enough scraps to use. I have just shipped off ten shawls and a blanket to a friend who deserves it. This year I am going to try to knit socks. I have yarn in a project bag, waiting. When I feel adventurous I will find a pattern to try that. I know I want a round toe and I don't want to cut my knitting, so I'll search for a good pattern. This last year I didn't buy a bunch of yarn and have worked through a lot of my yarn. I'm going to try to continue to do that, but I'm not saying no to new yarn. My down fall is when Knit Picks has sales. And there are some hand dyers that I just can't resist. Happy Knitting!

What a coincidence...I am currently working on my herbivore shawl. All your projects are beautiful but you owl cushion is gorgeous 🤩🤩🤩 I was thinking you can always frame it if you don’t end up frogging it. Looking forward to you other videos 🥰

Another great episode Martyn! You're great company in during my insomnia hours, I'm not complaining, it's all knitting hours for me. Loved seeing your wips. My goal is to have a 'winter knit care package' for all of my family members to give them in May, that's when the weather starts to cool for the Aussie winter. Everyone is getting 2 pairs of socks, beanie, mitts and a garment. So on my needles currently, there are 3 pairs of socks, a pair of mitts, a beanie, and 2 garments. Doing 10 rows a day on each, plus a crochet square a day for my new grandson's cot blanket.

I have 5 official WIPS - I'm 3/4 of the way through Starflanket by Stephen West, so I'm plowing through that right now. I'm making a sweater for my 13 yo and would like to finish it for him to wear this winter then I have a Xmas tree skirt and 2 shawls. I'm ready to cast on a sweater for me with yarn I bought at Rhinebeck but I want to finish my 1st 2 projects first! So much knitting, so little time! :)

Thanks for showing all your WIP's, there is a lot that I haven't seen and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished projects. I'd like to see you go through the process of washing your frogged yarn as I have a WIP that I'd like to redo in a different size.

Hi Martyn, I have 15 wips, currently trying to work on and finish three of those 15, just about to hand wind a mini skein for my Adventurous Wrap by Ambah O’Brien, it was started on December 1, I though have a tendency to go “ooh look nice pattern/yarn” and have to cast on something new. See you in the next one.

Wow! So much gorgeousness! And all the beautiful project bags! Martyn, I will be happy to watch anything you knit. The argyle vest though would be high on my list though. I am fascinated to learn about the ends. A woman in Colorado has a video talking about a method of capturing floats without them showing through but that is for color work. Honestly I want to just line it with satin and call the ends insulation! LOL. You already know that I loved the baby gear & your Christmas baubles.

The ends will all end up being sewn in nearly so that’ll be a fun task when I get to it…

Dear Martyn, thank you for this Podcast! Don‘t feel bad about having many WIPs. This is your (!) hobby (!) and it should be fun - not necessarily efficient or following a specific schedule. I personally need at least three different projects at a time to be happy, one mindless and one that needs special attention and another inbetween for having the possibilty to switch, better more than that so I am not getting bored. So, no regrets and a happy new year! Carola
