The arrangement of instruments in that song was also strange, allowing the bass guitar to be the most prominent. It often happens in Reggae music but seldom in Lingala music. Perhapss this was done to capture the aura of mystery that Franco was referring to!

Franco's brother Bavon Marie Marie died in 1973 and the song was done in 1982. When you say he had just lost his brother, that may be misleading. But he was actually mourning his bro. Bavon died in a mysterious accident after a quarrel with Franco and rumours in Kinshasa where they lived then, were rife that Franco actually bewitched him. In the song Franco is telling his mum to open her eyes and see that her family was being finished by witches who had conspired against the family. He says" mama can you see the sorcery has revealed itself in the sky. mama who will bury you when all you sons are gone?" He was distancing himself from the rumours and pleading with his mum not to listen. Mark you the old lady had only two sons. Franco and Bavon.
