This also highlights a most important fact...the quality of the sound being recorded in the first place. Nice sounding drums and guitars and vocal talent to work with. Good mic preamps in make a huge difference.

Has anyone made a video with actually tracking through the convertors? I have read that this series uses the same converter chips as RME. It would be really nice to hear what really goes in compared with say Focusrite tracking and also if you can actually track vocals with DAW reverb and compression for monitoring as is claimed in the marketing materials for these products. Nobody has shown if these claims add up in the real world.

Thank you very much! When you mix and sum the final product I would love to hear the sum put through an outboard tube before going back into the box and hear if that glues it together better than going straight back into the box!

Hey bro, i have the same console... but, i dont how how can i use a Plugin AFTER the console mixing... I use The mixer eq, and i would like to use a pluging after this EQ... Do you have any ideai of how to do it?
@ExileMixes4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. The multi-track workflow on this mixer limits you to do plugin processing before you mix outside the box. But there is a workaround if you are willing to do a bit of work. After you have EQd the mix out on the console, solo each track on the console and record individually back into your DAW. After every track has been bounced back from analogue to digital, process them with plugins like any other mix, except you have already EQd each in the analogue domain.

Awesome!!! I’m looking into getting this board. How do you print your eq and affects into your DAW at final mix??
@ExileMixes4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Everything that I did on the board in the first half of the video gets printed back as a stereo mix from the console's master bus. It is shown here, 4:27 as I do live fader moves back into the DAW.

As i can see, for the compression section using plugin. Fader pan reverb and EQ on the analog board. Whats the true benefit on board? I was thingking the process untill mastering section and later re record to daw again as a tape
@ronaldirawan36434 жыл бұрын
I am interesting on this mixer, but still configure how to maximise it effectively. Because impossible to me buy some analog compressor gear etc like Big Studio that no limitation budget.
@ExileMixes4 жыл бұрын
The benefit of the board for me is the tactile factor of moving multiple faders at once and hearing the instantaneous effect on the sound. And the second thing is, I happen to like the sound of the EQ on this board. The 60Hz bottom end has a curve that adds a lot below it so I get a fuller sound because of harmonic distortion, I guess. The mids too, I can tweak two at a time and get amazing results especially on vocals, guitars and snares. This is just my personal opinion though because I know you can use certain plugins to that effect too. To answer the last bit of your question about processing until the mastering section, yes, that is what I intend to do in the future when I can get my hands on 2 or 3 sets of compressors to hook up to the sub-group section or the aux sends so all processing will happen outside the box and as you say, record back to the DAW after. Thank you for your input and thanks for watching!

@@ronaldirawan3643 There are some lower-cost hardware that sound amazing at the professional level like the Warm Audio stuff. They have modern hardware emulations of the 1176, LA-2A and the Pultec EQs. Even the FOH engineer of Depeche Mode has a rack full of them on tour.

While tracking each individual track in daw Is it possible to apply whole channel strip..?
@ExileMixes Жыл бұрын
Hi there. When recording with this console, the signal is captured post-gain but pre-EQ so the whole channel strip is not recorded into the DAW. You can only use the whole channel strip during mixing by using the USB returns from the DAW in each channel.

Great work and amazing video, shows art and technique working at same time :). One question please, how do you record the final mix back to the DAW? I tried to figure out on the video but not sure. Do you send all channels to groups 1 and 2, and then the groups to the master, and the record the master (channels 23-24)? I am loving this analogue desk but haven't tried to finalize the mix on it yet. Thanks a lot in advance!
@ExileMixes4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. The default is to send all channels to the master, which is outputs 23-24 and goes back via USB back to the DAW, in this case, Logic Pro X. You can also send channels to subgroups 1-2 or 3-4 if you want to separate instruments from the vocal mix or drums from the instruments mix then send all (via the send buttons on top of the group switches) to master, which in turn will be recorded as a stereo track back to the DAW. The way to record it in the DAW is to arm a stereo channel for recording and when you press play on the DAW, it will automatically play the multi-track session while the stereo input also records the incoming stereo signal from the mixing console.

Silly question, but when you record your main mix and route that into the DAW, are you still able to hear the mix from the Board's Main Outs (or whatever you use to monitor the mix)? Im becoming more interested in this board.
@ExileMixes3 жыл бұрын
Not a silly question at all. Yes, you can monitor the mix from any of the outs that you route the main mix to, from the master, subgroups 1-2 and subgroups 3-4. It works just like any analogue desk.

@ExileMixes4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. No, I do not use external preamps. I mainly mix other artists' sessions so the only time I record with the Signature 22 is when I'm doing my voice-overs for these videos. That's gonna change soon though. I plan to record an album with a band using this console.

very good video I have 2 questions, how about the delay when recording? and if you ever used live plug ins what was your experience?
@ExileMixes4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Interesting. I always record dry without EQ since this board records pre-EQ anyway. I don't use plugins for two reasons. One, I want to avoid latency or the delay that you are referring to here. If you want to have a faster roundtrip from the board to the DAW and vice-versa, you can optimize the I/O buffer size in the preferences. I usually set it at 64 samples when recording and at 1024 when mixing. Second reason, I am mostly do mixing. I got his board for that purpose and if I do any recording on this, I usually do vocals only. I don't use plugins so I just use the onboard effects in the headphone mix of the vocalist to give him/her a better experience for her performance. Drums I usually record in another studio, which is in another location and I don't have a Signature 22 there, so I use a Focusrite 18i20. Now that you have mentioned it, I will try using plugins live next time I record with this board. Thanks for watching!
