Welcome back to another episode of RAC's Corner! In today's episode, Coach RAC Discusses 3 mental hacks for a tryout.
You suck at tryouts, but it’s not because you can’t play, it’s because you get in your head and have that fluttery nervous feeling in your stomach and then you get jumpy and your muscles tense up.
Save these 3 practical mental hacks to watch before your next tryout or test.
1. Plan your next meal
This sounds off topic, but before your tryout, plan what and where you’re going to eat afterwards. Our brains get so caught up in those big moments at tryouts, that we forget our day will continue on just the same no matter how we perform! Something about this is comforting! No matter how you do, you’ll get to go eat some good food afterwards. Put your tryout into perspective, don’t get caught up in the moment.
2. Extra work.
Leading up to the camp put in at least an hour of extra work. Extra work isn't just physical. Extra work helps you deep down believe you deserve to succeed.
3. Ignore everyone
I don’t mean ignore anyone who tries talking to you, but I absolutely mean ignore everyone else’s performance. Because looking at your competition and comparing yourself won’t help you do much better. We have this illusion that if we try really hard on our tryout day we’ll throw harder and hit harder, but it doesn’t work that way. Don’t be someone you’re not. Just bring what you’ve got.
