In the original book when Dorothy became a slave or servant to the wicked witch in her castle, Dorothy was forced to mop the castles floors. It was when the witch made Dorothy angry and poured the bucket of water and out of surprise saw the witch melt in front of her. If the witch knew water could kill her, why would she allow a bucket of water to be in her castle to begin with? Glinda didn’t want the wicked witch to have the magic ruby slippers knowing she would use them for her evil purposes. Just like the witch of the west said in the movie, “Once I gain those ruby slippers, my power will be the greatest in OZ”.

I always assumed Mrs Glutch died in the tornado. The metaphor of them dropping a house on her is Dorothy's mind, having seen Ms Glutch die in the Tornado. In Oz, the great and powerful Glinda is a manifestation of Dorothy's mother.

On stage, Glinda and Aunt Em are often played by the same actress. That doesn't mean anything for the movie, however.

In the books, Glinda is the Good Witch of the South and shows up in several sequels written by L. Frank Baum. The Good Witch of the North is not given a name and I don't think she ever reappears in the 13 sequels written by Baum. Also, in the book, Oz is a real place. Baum didn't intend to write any sequels but the first one was so popular among children, he relented. By book 6, The Emerald City of Oz, Baum tried to end the series by having Dorothy take her aunt and uncle to Oz to live, as they were having financial problems. This was so he could claim he no longer heard from Dorothy about her adventures (he had proclaimed himself the Royal Historian of Oz). Children besieged him with letters, begging for more stories. Finally he gave in, particularly after one girl pointed out Dorothy could continue to communicate with him via the new-fangled wireless telegraph. Oz, The Great & Powerful is not faithful to the books, for what it is worth. In the Baum stories, there were no manifestations of characters in one universe appearing in the other. No farmhands showing as the scarecrow, etc. Baum also never gave a backstory to Dorothy's family history. Disney or anyone else can make up any explanation they want, of course.
