Incredible camera's hey. The prices are now out of reach for most. I bought my m2 three years ago and it has doubled in value already. I also remember when m6's were 600 bucks. I thought that was high then...

I've had mine since 1969. $250, with Summicron (Canada) 35mm bugeyes. Also got the Leicameter. Haven't used it much for a while, but hope to get back at it. It was my main camera in my old street photography days. One of the truly great cameras.

Hi Wes, new M3 owner here. Thank you for making this video. M6 prices are too inflated. Case in point where hype meets an eager market. The M3 purportedly is constructed out of better raw materials compared to the M6. The M6 felt tinny when I held it and didn’t convey solidity as compared to the M3. M3 viewfinder is something to be admired. Though it is susceptible to balsam separation and yellowing eventually and can’t be repaired.

A real nice and concise overview of the Leica M3, I would just correct the word "Adjust" on the preview lever statement. It allows the user to preview the scene with other potential focal lengths it doesn't adjust - the lens when mounted does that. I realize this is nit picky but don't want others to get the wrong impression.

Thank you so much for clarifying that. Thanks for watching my video :-)

Can someone tell me why you have to shoot a 50mm on this? Why can’t I shoot a 35mm is it just the frame lines? Couldn’t I use a 35mm and know that my final image will expand outside of what I am seeing or is there something I’m missing??
@islandbyfilm2 жыл бұрын
That is correct. This model only had 50MM frame lines but you could definitely shoot any focal length with it.

Allegedly using the full viewfinder (ignoring the frame lines) is a good guess for 35mm framing (just remember to adjust for parallax up close).

"The film minder" at 2:44. The facts: Black and white film, Colour daylight film, Colour tungsten (3400K) film. The low speed of films in those days; 8 ASA/ISO for copy films. A Kodachrome 25 ASA or a Agfa UT 18 film. Black and white 40 ASA /17 DIN High Speed films of 200 ASA .... The difference between 400 ASA 28 DIN ( 28/10 'DIN )

Leicas and Leica videos should come with a warning. They’re just too good so as to cause addiction. I wasn’t satisfied until I got my M3. Even against the most recent ones there’s no better than the 3.

Why would the images look better? It’s a film camera. The lenses might contribute to better images but that the m mount

The experience? The prestige? The Lomo ? Imagine, around my left wrist is my swiss watch. Will I go down the street with a stretched arm to show my watch? A photographer can make a photo with any camera. A streetphotographer can do it with a Hasselblad 500C/m with a 50 mm, a Fuji 690 with a 65 mm or a Linhof Technika with a 75 mm. Drive to the super market by car in an Oldsmobile, a Buick, a DeSoto, a Chevrolet, aFord or a Volkswagen Beetle? Today I drive a VW UP, tricilinder 999 cc and 100 m/h. Funny downsized car, but I hate downsized Fujifilm APS-C. The 18x24 analog Leica and Fuji Half were great jewels.

The Sunny Sixteen is the worst way to measure your light. An old Agfa carton two-ruler lightmeter, made in Berlin 1912, is better.

Leica is no luxery brand. It is just a camera made in Germany. Some other camera brands have less quality.

Leica / Leitz is no luxury brand; has never been. It is just a german brand like Linhof, Rollei, Zeiss Ikon and Voigtländer. Zeiss, Rodenstock, Meyer, Schneider and Busch are no luxury optical brands.
